Incidentally, how does the Yanks losing to Trinidad compare to us losing to Iceland?

It's much worse if you take it on rankings, the USA 28th losing to one ranked at 99th whereas we only lost to a team ranked 25 places below us on 34th?

Up and coming team are Iceland having won their group over the likes of Croatia,Ukraine and Turkey.

Agree about Shelvey but he is a risk taker when it comes to passing and that is against all the current FA manuals - possession is important so safe 10 yard sideways passes or the order of the day.

Is it a risk worth taking. To me virtually every team that's won or done well in a major tournament has had a creative, often world class player in midfield, Bobby Charlton, Gazza, Platini, Netzer, Gerson etc, etc perhaps Greece in 2004 were the exception.

Haven't talked to the "Football guys" yet, I imagine they're not happy. All the Americans I mix with day to day are die hard American sports fans, all Red Sox, Pats, Bruins and Celtics even in their respective off seasons. The topics at the moment are the Red Sox being KO'd from the first round of the play-offs and Tom Brady missing his first day of training for some time.

The USA not making the WC Finals didn't make the local news.

And yet you put Wilshire in your team who can’t even get a game in his team and that Bournemouth didn’t want back. Shows how abysmal our squad is.

I included Wilshere on the basis that he's back playing regularly for Arsenal. At his very best he still walks into the current England team in midfield.

I certainly wouldn't say we have an abysmal squad of players either. We have a lot of talent and quality in the forward areas if used correctly. The main issue is that our players for one reason or another just seem unable to perform how they do every week for their respective clubs.

Csnt play Henderson and Dier together , too negative. Dier has been awful in the last few games.

Sterling is awful on a regular basis, need Lallana back, who has a brain.

Alli is a child and needs some serious work on his attitude.

Both keepers are good enough.

Need Rose back playing with Walker as wing backs.

Centre backs are accidents waiting to happen.

At least we have one of the best strikers in Kane with Rashford also coming on nicely.

Main reason is they are surrounded by better players and better coaches every week for their clubs.

I suppose playing both Dier and Henderson is to insure we don't concede but it it's not very pleasing on the eye when we keep playing backwards and sideways. We are desperately short of a midfield player who is capable of running though from the halfway line.

I don't expect us to beat either Germany or Brazil in the next two matches but I believe the performances will be much better against two teams who will actually attack us and open the game up.I believe we have players with pace to hit them on the break.

That logic has never worked when we've come up against a good team in a tournament?
