Neil Aspin and John Rudge rejoin the Vale

Recently something so ingrained in my life as Port Vale is in mine (and many others) was draining away from me. I lost my passion, and was going through the motions. At Stevenage on Saturday there was nothing to cheer, no passion on display, no real skill, no excitement, simply a nothingness and emptiness. I was following a habit that first started for me in 1961 and I felt that it was just a bad habit that I really needed to shake off. Games were grey, the atmosphere was flat, there was no anticipation of any joy, hope, passion and no ambition. It felt like I was witnessing the long slow decline of a much loved elderly relative who had been strong, heroic, fun and exciting but was now on his deathbed struggling to ensure every breath was not his last.

Today Port Vale is once more exciting, vibrant, alive, colourful, a place of promise, joy, ambition, and I cannot wait to see my next game. Overnight we will not become a good team, we still have many mountains to climb, and bridges to cross, however we will all be pulling in the same direction and I have hope in my heart, a spring in my step and I am no longer going through the motions.

that has given me goose bumps. Well said Essex, top top post. VTID.

Having a quick look, it's also quite interesting that the fans of a certain team up the road appear absolutely obsessed with us - most popular thread on their forum in about the top 20. Aside from that, there appears little to read about, just a lot of moaning (despite being 3 leagues above)!

Too true.

All I want from them in the immediate term is for us to avoid the trapdoor and build some stability and pride in the football club. We can then take it from there. We all hope of course that both can use their scouting ability to spot a few non league gems to help us out of this god dman mess we are in. I don't subscribe to the view that we already have a lot of good players here who only need organising. I think we are still woefully short on quality, particularly in the attacking third.

Good luck to them both! It's a tough, very tough job, and they'll need our support and our patience.

When Rudge was sacked i will be honest and say i shed a tear or two,now today i have to be honest again i had a watery eye...now if they both walk out together to be introduced to the crowd then i have to admit i might just blart my eyes out and i am 46

I'm older than that mate and yes I too had and will have a tear in my eye Saturday. Bloody Vale, they don't half mess with your emotions! Brilliant 1st day at Crawley with all the seasons expectations raised, -from then a pile of dung and misery with the associated slurs at the Team/manager/owner and anything Vale- to today, the dawn of a new horizon with the Dream Team Legends installed to create goosebumps a plenty! If this were a soap the writers would be zillions of quid in pocket.

He didn't look to happy at the press conference,he didn't want Brown to go and he wanted Horton and maybe he sees Rudge as a threat and damn right to,i would take Rudgie a million times over Garlick

All I can say is he'd better get with the programme because no one's going to put up with any nonsense when we're in such a dire position and with two club legends in charge. Let's hope he gets over his disappointment quickly.

I've noticed that as well, especially on Twitter posts. I can honestly say that I have never seen Vale fans commenting directly on Stoke news etc. It's probably their way of using comparison to make themselves feel better as another *ahem* top 4 bid flounders.
