Why we need Neil Aspin.

"He was sacked on 17 September 2015 following what the board described as "a prolonged period of indifferent results stretching back to February 2015" " Sounds a lot like floundering to me.

Maybe eventually yes but your point read as though he 'floundered' as soon as he took Halifax into the conference that's not strictly true as they had a pretty good first 18 months making the playoffs after finishing 5th. It started to go downhill from February the season after. Like I say that can happen to any manager. I do agree though you can't read too much into his early seasons at Halifax(although very impressive) as they would have been expected to get back to at least the Conference North pretty unchallenged with their fanbase and budget.

Christ. They said, verbatim, "he’ll probably give you what you need in your current position.Defence minded, organised and discipline-however don’t expect great flair or creativity. To be fair to him with some cash he might develop that later." Without picking out the bits you like, would you be happy if John Askey was about to get the job and had been described as that?

I'm genuinely flabbergasted by the way Vale fans are falling for this Aspin bullocks. It's be laughable if it wasn't so embarrassing. As I posted in another thread, this is what Norman's doing....

Still unconvinced by Aspin. He is a non league manager at a non league club. How on earth can he be assured of getting us out of our problems?

Westley, who people moan about had an amazing non league record, including winning the conference. He also has lots of league experience including establishing Stevenage as a league side.

He was a great player but Brown had a much better career as him and was an FA Cup winner...yet look at where we are.

by the way i wanted aspin when adams left

I believe that you did. The majority of the fans, however, have been demanding a proven league manager and someone with the experience to get us out of this league. They have also complained about Norman going for this mythical 'cheap option' and went ballistic when Askey was touted as the leading candidate. I also believe that Vale fans expect attractive football (although we've only seen this in flashes since John Rudge). The extent to which heads have been turned and these demands dropped just because Aspin was a real hero when he played for us (and has a decidedly average managerial record) is puzzling to say the least.

Having said that, i will try and be there on Saturday and will give the guy my unwavering support. UTV.

For those moaning about Aspin being like Pulis. WAKE UP! Pulis and his style established our neighbours into a steady premier league side. For those lamenting the "defensive minded, organised style"... WAKE UP! Look at what Dyche has done with Burnley using a similar style.

For me, this kind of football is EXACTLY what we currently need. We are bottom of League 2 for gods sake. Organisation and becoming hard to beat are precisely what we should be looking for from the new guy. If we were in the national league right now, there's a fairly strong argument to suggest we'd be bottom half with this side and they way we are playing at the moment.

I suggest beggars don't be choosers. Neil Aspin looks a good fit to me. With or without his Vale connections.

Get it done!

As long as we play any style well enough, we'll be fine in this terrible league. Why pick the most dour football available? As for 'beggars can't be choosers', even with the numpty upstairs we should still be a relatively enticing prospect. Our 'natural' position is in the league above this and there is a little untapped potential in the fanbase. I wish the fans had gotten behind a campaign to get Richard Money or Chris Powell in the way they did with Aspo.
