Why we need Neil Aspin.

I won't post on this thread again now (I promise this time) and I hope I'm proved wrong but...

As I've said, when the humiliation of having your manager nicked by another club sets in, instinct is to downplay him and act as though you're not bothered (see Page's departure).

The attendance figure is inaccurate; when Aspin took over in the 15-16 season, the attendance was 942. Last season, it was 910. This season, so far, its 792. Halving my backside. Gone down 150, and the season is barely underway. They haven't played sides such as Hartlepool, who will surely boost the average figure up. Its BS.

5 places lower; the season is 13 games deep. A difference of 5 places after 13 games isn't exactly catastrophic. Aspin took over mid-season and still finished 8th despite taking over a team in 13th having won 1 in 9.

The manager he replaced who had a better 'points per game'? Lasted from June to November. Points per game ratios are fairly irrelevant for such a small sample size.

They have the 4th lowest attendance and finished 8th and 9th. They are harping on about his style of play as if they're challenging in the Prem, as opposed to playing in a league with some semi-professional teams. Most Vale fans value wins over 'carpet football' as the Gateshead faithful clearly demand.

Its clear revisionism and cherry-picking as they understandably don't like the fact we've poached their manager. I'm not suggesting he is universally revered, a genius, or anything of the sort, just delving into the stuff you've posted proves its mostly exaggerated rubbish, as most football fans do, when a manager is poached by a club seemingly not much larger than their own (again, see the comments when Page left. Largely focused on the negatives and little on the 12th placed League 1 finish with AJ LS as his main striker).

I'm not saying Aspin's going to revolutionise Vale and we'll storm the title; just that take Gateshead fan's comments with a pinch of salt. Hyperbolic claims such as 'halved attendances' and cherry picked stats such as Points Per Game over a period of 3 months suggest they're understandably trying to justify disinterest in him being nicked.
