Although I think Neil Aspin is the best defender that I have ever witnessed pull on the famous white shirt, and as much as I think he is a fantastic bloke and a club legend, I really don't want him as manager.

I just feel that should it all go wrong it will ruin everyone's perception of him just like Glover before him.

I hope I'm wrong and he becomes not only a legend of a player but a manager too, but I'm just fearful of using club legends and would rather have someone who has never been involved with the club before.

Yes, I'm afraid of that too, but he is big enough to handle what comes his way . I wanted Aspin even before Micky Adams got the job. The timing may be right now. I've watched his progress in Non-League for years now , and comes he across as cool and

calm , with none of the soundbites we had from the previous 3 managers. He reminds me a bit of Alex Ferguson in interviews. What you see is what you get. I'm more than a little excited this evening , and I hope we're all wrong in worrying about him not getting it right. I've had this feeling for years now that he would be the man to manage Vale the right way. We shall see. Not a done deal yet though. UTV

hey up, a rave from the grave, all we need now is the bounty hunter and we have a full set, at o rate soul.

We need nothing more now that Sting is here. It is a totally different world out there now though ISO. Still, some nice crackers and a good pair of slippers really does help Sting to escape the madness, if only for the night.

Well now, it seems we still don't know who the '3 outstanding candidates' are but - if this thread is any indication - if it isn't Neil then the poo will well and truly hit the fan.

It might Barry. Whoever it is , at least we'll

be put out of our misery from the last several weeks. I just have this feeling in my gut that Aspin may be a very good manager for Vale, and I'm excited for the first time in ages. We shall see. UTV

I don't know why, but I have a feeling one of the candidates will be Paul Ince.

However I'm really fearful about Smurfs Grimsby comment and I pray to God it is not Ravanelli because it would be an absolute pantomime bound to end in relegation.

I do think it would be a win-win for somebody like a Cotterill, who is looking to re-build his reputation even if he didn't stick around for too long. The squad may not be great, but it's not relegation (I don't think) and with a transfer window to go I really think moving us up the table is almost guaranteed with a bit of organisation and playing to our strengths.

We won't even be on cotterills radar. Anyone hoping for people like him or Adkins is going to be disappointed with whoever we get.

Personally would be over the moon with aspin. I just hope we take on the dam busters as a new signature song. Arms out wide, singing loud and proud as the great one drags us up the table. Is it ok to dream?

Unless I'm completely misreading it I think the owners tweet makes it sound like a done deal...

Aspin for England.....well maybe in 5 years after he's won us the FA Cup and has us handily placed on the Premier League!

Smurf is playing u lot like a cheap fiddle Hes got rid of one patsy cannon fodder in Brown and is trying to replace him with a vale legend in Aspo

My advice to Neil is think long and hard use ya head not ya heart as I did when I stopped watching vale some three years ago it may be painful but it's sensible imho

Who's actually said its Aspin?...

That's exactly my concern.

Since the Luton game - and for the very first time in my life following all things Port Vale - I am emotionally in the doldrums. I don't even feel miserable. In fact, I simply feel nothing.

The scary thing is I'm not panicked to despair what our league status will be come the end of the season.

Owners, managers and players come and go, we remain - and in my remaining earthly years this 'feeling nothing re. all things Port Vale' will remain indelible on my psyche.

I want to be exited again re Port Vale but, and as someone pointed out earlier, the clock is ticking.

Now I'm off to grab a little sun...

Neil Aspin, for me, is the greatest player, not just defender, to ever play for Port Vale. Not only was he as hard as nails but he was, and I presume still is, a man of principle (re his support for Rudge after his didmissal, which ultimately lead to him leaving the club). My worries about him, in a managerial capacity were the above but having thought about it, there's no one I'd rather have for the reasons I've mentioned.

What we need is a warrior and Aspo is a warrior who loves the Vale; it's an absolute no brainer as far as I'm concerned. If he can work with Micky too, awesome.
