Micky Adams 'paranoid', says Martin Keown

Given the possibility that Micky Adams could have a supervisory role at Vale in future, the former Arsenal defender Martin Keown gave an interesting insight into our potential director of football on 5 Live tonight before the Gunners game with West Brom.

The presenter asked Keown why more people like him, with lots of experience, weren't going into lower level clubs to help with coaching, and were instead lost to the game, becoming pundits, etc. Keown said his own time at Leicester, when Adams was manager there, had put him off. He claimed Adams had been 'paranoid' and was worried that he would get the sack and Keown would replace him as manager. Keown had gone out of his way, when Adams was in time sacked, to make it clear that was not the case.

Keown also said that he had offered to help coaching the youngsters but was told by the youth coach that he couldn't. When he asked why, he was told it was because Adams didn't want him to.

If Micky does come back, it will be interesting to see what sort of relationship he has with the eventual manager.

And I wonder if he has anything to say about Keown in his autobiography?!

I remember listening to an interview with Adams on Radio Stoke a few years ago where he complained of the same thing when he was a senior player.

He tried to get involved with the coaching when he was on loan at Stoke (circa 1994) but he said that the coaching staff there thought he was after their job.

didn't realise keown was the equivalent of the messiah he's just some gobby ex player who people should ignore.

He's not the messiah he's......apparently an expert psychologist able to judge that someone is paranoid. Let's face it part of Keown's job now is to get himself heard on radio and TV and read in the press..he has to have things to say so will find something to say.

At least no one on TV working with him need to be paranoid about him replacing them

I suppose it's down to the manager in situ at a club. If they decide that senior players can't get involved in coaching that's up to them. As much as experienced players may have something to pass on that's useful you've got to abide by what the Managers says surely as they're in charge, even if you think they are a complete plonker and don't like them.

Adams wasn't sacked at Leicester, he resigned.

Martin Keown is a plank.

We know the miracles Micky has worked for our club.

How does that have anything to do with what Keown said?

"Micky did a good job for us so any negative comments about him can't be true".

Does it honestly surprise anyone that Micky is a control freak and not well liked in football?

There seems to be a rule that you have to think Micky's a top bloke to appreciate his managerial success.

Edit: Keown's comments don't surprise me giving Micky's conduct at certain times of the club cough administration cough. Doesn't change the fact that he did a good job with us, but should be nowhere near Port Vale at the present, especially in a part-time consultancy role.
