wouldn't be totally inspired if Bell got the job but wasn't Adkins , a lot of peoples favourite on here , just a physio before he was Scunny manager ? the rest is history.

I know I think its more we keep taking chances on rookie managers and its getting us where we are. It could work out but on the whole its a massive gamble. Why should PVFC become a play ground for a man trying to make a name for himself, it only ever worked once with the great John Rudge but we can't keep hoping to emulate it.

When Northampton Town appointed Chris Wilder, they were in the bottom two and looking absolutely doomed.

They managed to get him to leave Oxford, who were then in or around the playoffs.

He kept them up then took them up as champions the next year.

We could go and get Coleman if we had any kind of vision or plan or were willing to pay.

But we don't.

The problem is smurf.

Just get out!

To clear something up, Bell didn't bring Andoh and Hugill to the Vale, that was our ex-scout George Foster, who I think is the European Scout for Swansea City now. Bell was their coach for 6 months, so would have had a bit of an impact.

Bells not at all what we need, but if Norman can't afford a experienced manager, to me Bell is as good as we'll get. He'll know the league and what it takes to get us out of trouble. Just concerned that this will be his first management job.

He was with us as a youth team keeper wasn't he?

He signed for one season in 1961 as understudy to Ken Hancock, and he played one game at Bradford PA which we won 1-0. He was 33 years of age, so hardly a youth keeper.

He was manager at Brighton on his own for 2 years, and took them to 4th in Div 3 missing promotion by 2 points. Now, of course, that would have taken them to the play offs. He made some important signings, including Brian Horton, who he stole from us. The team he left went on to 2 promotions, under Alan Mullery but it was mainly Taylor's team. It also included Sammy Morgan another of Taylor's signings.

I agree, not only do we have to pay the going rate, we have to convince a decent manager that the club has some sort of vision or direction that they can buy into.
