Norm probably isn't aware of that connection..just sees that he played for Spurs and Arsenal and England, is up for the job and can bring PL players to Vale (Darren Anderton, Paul Ince and Teddy Sheringham).

If we get an experienced manager it will be someone who has failed. Aspin has a terrific record over a long period. I said on here a long time ago when he was still at Braintree that Danny Cowley was a great manager. He is out of our reach now though. I am not saying Aspin has to be the man but a non league manager with Adams as DOF could be a good model. The new man has to improve existing players and win and keep the dressing room. An older recycled man has less chance of doing that.

 

I'm a great admirer of Aspin and in normal circumstances I'd agree with this. My worry though is that we are in such dire straits survival has to be our first priority and successful football league experience is a must for me. Get this one wrong and it's curtains. So a non-league manager, however good, would imho be too much of a risk.

That's a terrible slur on the England women, Bookworm. If we had a full back of Lucy Bronze's calibre we'd have far fewer problems. They have great forwards too!

Bit of a gap appearing in the betting market now - Horton at 15/8, Adams drifted out to 4/1 (though we know he's more likely DoF rather than manager), but further out is Ronnie Moore at 12/1.

 

Odds pretty much mean nothing as it's impossible to second-guess Smurthwaite's next move!

Yup Lee Sinnott was an amazing manager in non league but look at what happened there.
