On a lighter note, when Wolves were sponsored by Doritos it was alleged that it stood for Division One Rubbish In Tatty Orange Shirts :-)

I seem to recall some years ago during the Isle of Mann football comp Vale were playing in that a Wolves fan walked past the Vale contingent wearing a Wolves shirt with "Goodyear" as in the tyre company on the front..one Vale wag shouted "You don't look old enough to remember your last good year..when was it 1953"

It was funny at the time

Gambling is the hidden epidemic and a large part of why people are relying on Food banks and Porn shops. Normal people whom were once responsible are drawn into a huge black hole that fools the people into thinking they can win big.

Peter Coates has made Stoke City what it is out of other people's misery. The Labour party were to blame in the early 2000's for relaxing the legislation then allowing the labour market to be saturated with cheap Labour which brought down wages thus people turned to gambling to alleviate their financial positions

JA You are wrong on this one. Gambling is Legal however Gambling IS intrinsically bad for you. It causes stress which leads to mental health issues and other health related issues

No Self control is what's bad for you.Every customer ,online,is verified before being accepted. They can be stopped from betting if they are showing signs of betting unusually. In the shops a customer, who appears to be distressed, can have a bet refused.Customers, online and shops, can self exclude.Everything in moderation and being responsible.

For such a small minority, for many others it is fun and gives pleasure. We might as well ban everything that is fun and gives pleasure because everything could be twisted in to being bad for you.

If that was the case the many who are addicted to FOB's in the shops would not be going in there and spending all their wages as has been reported. Seen it with my own eyes in the local Coral shops how people are angry after losing but within a few days they are back in again. As long as the ££££££££££££££s are rolling into the coffers these companies do not care. The so called self responsibility campaigns that these companies run are a sham and only there to tick a box.

If they were intent in keeping gambling in check online and in shops they would instigate a monthly total spend amount that cannot be changed at any time within at least one year and with subject to review...the companies will not do that..leave it to punters discretion because they know if bets are lost they will up their montthly limits themselves

The minority you speak of has increased and increasing further since online gambling has grown in prevalence. Don;t forget the many that are in serious trouble through gambling do not always come forward to organisations like GA and are 'off the radar'.

I bet at least 10% of people of Vale fans who come on this site has a gambling problem in some form...large or small

I disagree. Yes gambling can lead to all those things but it isn't intrinsicallly bad for you.

I have known many people who have the occasional bet on the horses for whom it's not led to any mental health issues nor other health related issues..I don't deny that it can.

I'm no gambler and would like to see it much less readily available but it's not intrinsically bad for you health-wise.

It may have increased as more and more are having the odd flutter but as I said pretty well everything is bad for you if you don't control it but does not mean it should be banned or censored.

we've got more important things to worry about that some bloody message printed onto a football shirt,if we go down it's possible that we wont have a sponsor.

True in a Vale context - thought people are allowed to discuss other things.

I sense a huge confusion on this thread between banning advertising of gambling and banning gambling (or saying it is always wrong), mixed in with the Bet365 anti-Stoke factor.

I've said before - you can't stop gambling so TAX it - and ignore the diverting manipulators who make excuses about offshore crappp - close loopholes and this massive industry could fund 20 new hospitals a year and a 10 per cent pay rise for nurses.

I bet, and don't mind it being taxed - it is a luxury and not a necessity and as such demands to either be taxed or better still, totally nationalised - a bit like cannabis should be sold by the state and the tax used for good things.

It happens with alcohol and tobacco, and morals can't stop people doing things whether you think they are right or wrong - so nationalise and tax them for all our benefit. Some of the tax could be used to help problem gambling.

As for the implications for Stoke City and the other 8 prem clubs funded by gambling, we will leave that for another day.

Perhaps if this goes through the nine PL clubs will consider promoting UNICEF,the NSPCC or the RSPCA instead,or is that forbidden?

Barcelona had a season with blank shirts and gave the sponsorship amount they would have earned to UNESCO, or some very similar arrangement.

So I may be wrong in thinking your post was a tad sarcastic (what me guv ?) but such things are possible - the whole world isn't a stinking cesspit of profit and greed, even if Barca and some of their stars haven't maintained that noble approach so well.
