Columnist Malcolm Hirst’s second side is cult German outfit St Pauli so how did he react when they announced a partnership with Stoke City? Malcolm Hirst writes… Making difficult decisions is part of life. These can be at work, home or in our social lives. There are times when the decisions we face go to […]

On a serious note; Rob, why do you offer a platform for this patronising tripe? This is nothing more than a typically condescending swipe at the supporters of Port Vale who choose to live in the City where their club play rather than seek their fortunes in the big smoke. The "more holier than thou" NLV love to chat on their Virgin trains home about how backwards and lacking ambition us, the majority of Vale fans are for "settling" for a life in the Potteries. Without us "neanderthals" this club wouldn't exist.

It's nothing to do with where people live or where they came from, your post is trying to sow discontent and make Hamburg seem the club of choice for SOT based Vale fans. It isn't. Some support Hamburg, some st Pauii and that doesn't matter.

What dos matter is that Vale align themselves with anti-racist, ant-fascist, anti-homophobic and anti-sexist causes, as I am sure Hamburg do as well as St Pauli.

Bigots are the only enemy.

You don't seem to like anyone giving an opinion on here even the owner of the "tin pot" forum. I don't see anything patronising about the written article, it just seems that it's ruffled a few feathers of the H$V supporters on here, why I've no idea.

There's an interesting line here that I think has 'ruffled the feathers':

'The attractions for me were weekends away with friends, watching football in safe standing areas with a pint in my hand, and the left-wing politics that are at the core of both the club and the fan base.'

Never understood the need to mix politics and football or the need to impose personal views on others, especially when for most football is an escape from everyday life. There's about ten of us who stand together at Vale - and within that ten there are lads from completely different ends of the political spectrum, from completely different backgrounds, with completely different lifestyles, living in completely different parts of the country and with completely different professions. What brings us together is that in spite of all these differences we love the same thing: going down the Vale and supporting the lads. Port Vale needn't learn anything from St Pauli, they already provide a hugely important platform for social inclusion and harmony.

Before long, "regionalism" will be an offence so singing about Scousers, Mancs, Londoners etc will be off-limits. I'd love to think it would never come to that but I really think this will happen.

Feck knows what St Pauli sing about, but I'm sure their songs are all ethically-sourced and with impeccable sentiments.
