Yeah, I'd rather him not go. I always thought of him as a loyal player and even though Barcelona is mighty tempting for him, for obvious reasons, it would be nice to see him have one more good season for Liverpool and perhaps even win some silverwear with the club before departing. But I don't think him leaving would be the be all, end all. Lallana could play his role just fine, though he's obviously injured for a couple of months.

If he went it would need Liverpool to bring in someone at least as good cos otherwise they would be weakened. And to be honest the fact that Barca are willing to pay so much pretty much proves that there aren't players available who are at least as good.

Personally I don't think Lallana is anywhere near as good as Coutinho.

Yes, he can. In terms of goals and assists I have do doubt. He's not as good a passer as Coutinho and won't score outside the box as often, but he's as good technically and presses the opposition much better.

You don't want Coutinho's 'successor' to be using up his energy pressing the opposition

Never said that I did. Just making the point that he has some better attributes than Coutinho, that being one of them. As said, I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that Lallana couldn't score and assists a similar amount of goals, injury permitting of course. He wasn't far away last season at all, and played less games than Coutinho along with a less advanced position! They are facts, not my opinion.

You said Lallana "presses the opposition much better" and portrayed this as a positive..IMO it would not be as you don't want whoever is doing Coutinho's job in the team using up his energy pressing the opposition..so it's not a positive for me that he's better at it.

Surely you want him utilising his energy being creative and making runs and getting on the end of chances..that was my point

Fairynuff..I don't agree that he could succeed Coutinho without the team becoming worse but I hope we don't find out cos I hope Coutinho stays.

Well that makes absolutely no sense. Facts are facts, and they are as legitimate as it gets.

As Mark Twain said, " lies, damned lies and statistics". In other words, statistics can say whatever you want them to say. But I would doubt that anyone would say that Lallana is a better player than Coutinho, no matter what Opta may suggest.

Makes you wonder why the big clubs aren't in for Lallana instead of Coutinho considering he is the better player :laugh:

I'll be concerned if Coutinho leaves but I can't see it happening unless Barcelona make a ridiculous bid. There's no way Coutinho will hand in a transfer request and force the move either as he has far too much respect for the club. At the moment Man City look the stand out team with the signings they've made. After that it's anybody's guess.
