A Year On: What Really Happened to Port Vale's 'Overseas' Experiment?

Have to say I wasn't one of the optimists and considered and posted that Vale would struggle, sign a dozen or more Conference standard or below players and ultimately it's no surprise where the club will end up. It was of interest to see your post about Notts' experience.

I lived in Nottingham for 20 years and still visit as often as possible as I still have many good friends there. Miss walking the dog in Woolly Park and around Martins Pond, the city is vibrant and superb for nights out, still much going on.

To sum up what happened is that our owner has very little brain cells and I'm sorry to say this but many of our supporters do to.

Kiko. Saleiro. Cecilia. They sound exotic. Therefore they will rip the league apart! One couldn't defend. One left after 5 minutes and the other should be on Blackpool beach. And there are many many more who weren't good enough for non league football, let alone league football, yet our fans embraced it.

A minority spoke out. It was a ridiculous gamble. Sadly that minority got shot down.

Now, we are where we are. So be it.

Anyone who sung "Reggie Reggie" last season should be ashamed.

The worst striker in my 30 years of going.

So now we start again.

At Crawley. Accy . Barnet. Yeovil. Stevenage. The list is endless.

It's grim.

And yesterday our season ticket sales stand at 1500. Like that's an achievement. It's a disgrace. Another 1500 would renew if the idiot owner sold up but he won't.

Our club is a laughing stock but if you say it too loudly on here you get slaughtered by the usual deluded idiots who think Norman isn't a problem and you shoul just pay whatever and be a true supporter.

We have a huge 7 months ahead of us as a football club.

Come Christmas, if we aren't challenging, you're talking 2500 gates max.

Fans have had enough.

Norman. **** off. Please.

The short story is that some people in the game saw our chairman coming and persuaded him to employ a lot of other people who were either way out of their depth or just not suited to English lower league football.

There's no fool like an old fool and the more and more I hear about Norman and how green he was, the more I actually pity him rather than feel any anger.

I'll save my sympathy for someone less arrogant. Remember the treatment of Rob Page? The pitchside nonsense at Exeter and the boast of getting rid of him by cutting the budget? Remember his "If I leave, you lot are fxcked" comment? Remember his laughable ticket offers that no one knew about because he hadn't got a frigging clue about marketing but carried on regardless?

He's taken the club backwards in every single way.

I shall recall his name every time I look at what I call "The Norman Seats". -the ones that he put in an unused, unopen Lorne St Hamil, whilst we had 15,000 empty seats elsewhere. Those seats absolutely sum up his time for me.

What happened, well it sees Smurf got conned by two PL managers and a Championship one.He listened to references and promises from Mourinho,Karanka and Carvalhal before he finally took Bruno on has our manager.

From then on it was all downbank.
