Season Ticket Prices/Sales

While I agree with your comments about the pain will continue if Smurthwaite's pockets continue to be lined, I also feel the pain could be a lot worse if we don't line them. He has us in a catch 22. If we stay away, the club will end up in non league or even out of existence through lack of funding. If we buy our season tickets, we end up with him staying. He is in a win-win situation and us in a lose-lose and unfortunately he knows it.

I'm no Smurf fan by any stretch but how is he in a win-win situation if we go into non-league and cease to exist?

He owns the ground / land and is the major creditor. There must be something in it for him by staying or else he would cut his losses and sell. There is no way he will get anymore than £1.5m if you leave the sales of Smith and Hugill out of the calculation. So why will he not sell. I personally feel that he has lost patience with the fans and couldn't care if we went out of business. I would love him to prove me wrong.

Anybody else feel like they really aren't bothered? 15 years I've had a season ticket. Aren't getting one as I've simply had enough, lost a fair bit of interest and generally drained of enthusiasm. Just me?

It's not just you.

As it happens I think our drop in support is more complex than just performances. We won the first six at home last season and still struggled to get over 4500 home fans.

There's a whole generation of young people for whom weekly attendance at games simply isn't part of their social life. There's a huge number of "lads" who mainly do a few away games every season and there's an aging older fanbase.

We're up against those toss-pots a few miles away, and the walk up price is in my opinion far too much ( we're not alone in this).

I wish I knew what the answer is.

The answers & possible solutions have been debated many a time on here, & I believe the fans have come up with lots of good ones which would help. The issue is that the club simply has no willingness to do anything about it. It took them this long to gift fans the token gesture of reduced ST prices, & that was only because they realised they were going to end up with

People say apathy reigns when they talk about our fan base, but for me it stems from the club. Never seen a business make it so hard for customers to give them their money, & so happy just to sit back & lose its customers.

There's only so much blame we can shift to our neighbours. Everybody knows how abysmal our marketing/commercial 'department' is, & we will go nowhere until it is sorted out.

Funnily enough I suggested a signed shirt be put up in a prize draw that could be won through buying a season ticket. I now see they have a signed Chris Eagles shirt up for grabs. So maybe they're listening to good ideas regardless of who comes up with them.

I definitely think they should have an open day at which season tickets are dished out by one or two players, along with fun activities.

If I decided to return , there is now another factor affecting the value a ST, the numbers of music festivals is still increasing. I have about 8 lined up so far , all are of course weekends, and only 2 fall outside the football season. Value for money is higher and you have far more chance of coming away satisfied (unless you go to V)

The percentage of pay-packet to football admission costs has risen dramatically since the mid-90's and I think pay-on-the-day costs are far,far too high. I honestly think that £10 on the day would get far more people through the gates in the lower leagues. That's on a par with cinema, bowling and countless other forms of entertainment.

On the other hand, while people pay it, clubs will charge it. The worst example is Ipswich's charges...look at this!!

Any news on how many sold? Managed to break 600 yet?

I'd imagine the next release on numbers will be after the 31st though I'd be using social media to drive interaction and numbers with a campaign.

The Eagles shirt prize is a start but it should be followed by different prizes being added daily to build a buzz.

295 quid for league 2 football does not tap into the unknown .

For example speaking to a gentleman at work i said if they reduced the season ticket price to 150 quid would u go and sign up to it he said yes he is a Liverpool fan .

So theres one extra supporter who u wont c inside Vale parkand tbats only for him attend what if he is thirsty and wants a dew beers ,a oatcake ,a pie ,a programme ,a shirt etcand what if enjoys what he sees then he will encourage more of his family go .

We must be the most short sighted club ever.

We cannot compete with Stoke so the prices have to be ridiculously low to get folk interested.

Then u have to win big cup ties and games against those u aint supposed to .

Then it snowballs in a good way .

Thats why Synthetic solutions have to take over A.S.A.P they have a thriving business and a plan and the insight to c what a nobody like me sees .

Their ST prices could be interesting, if they aim for 3/4 of the ground to be STs their STs may give a large discount, some clubs also give 10% off for ST renewals, it also helps sales if there is a waiting list.
