Michael Brown hoping to stay and prove he can be a success

He's put his faith in those who want to play for Port Vale not those who want out.

I beg to differ, some of the performances from the likes of Taylor have not been of players who WANT to play for our club.

Hes weeded out those who weren't putting the effort in in training, and early doors pretty much said so much about the intensity and desire of some of them. Of course thats a different matter to some of the individual performances we've seen on a matchday though, but if the management feel these players aren't doing it in training then why do they deserve a spot in the matchday side?

Despite how poor some of the players may have performed don't forget that players like Eagles, Thomas, Bikey, Pugh & Taylor don't even need to be here, they certainly aren't at Vale for the payday, as they've already earnt a fortune at other clubs.

Correct. Here are the damning statistics:

Glover Games 39 W12 D8 L19 Win percentage 30.8

Sinnot Games 44 W9 D11 L24 Win percentage 20.5

Brown Games 22 W4 D6 L12 Win percentage 18.2

Incidentally, Brown's record is the third worst for the Vale since records began in 1896, which makes him a dead cert for Norman.

Someone give Deano a call and tell him all is forgiven!

In fairness I don't think many people could argue too much with what he has said. The real issue is what happens on the pitch. There is no doubt his record to date is truly dreadful but we have to take account of all the factors around his management stint so far. He could hardly have had a more challenging situation.

Sir Bobby Robson's record in his first managerial job at Fulham was even worse than Michael Brown's so far at Port Vale. Sir Bobby went on to become quite a decent manager you know. Let's not bee too quick to react.

It is a tough call, much would depend on the freedom he would be given to do the job and how he intended the team to play. If he goes I will thank him for his efforts, but would expect him to be replaced by someone with a good track record, which could only mean a lower level manager coming to us as a bigger job, in the way we recruited Lee Sinnot.

Sinnot was jettisoned too early I feel. Most of his signings in his only close season were pretty decent (Dodds, Taylor, McCombe, Stockley, Griffith, Collins). He inherited a squad with lots of deadwood and he was not given time to sort it out. He had an eye for a player all his pre-season signings were pretty decent for our level.

So on balance, perhaps Michael should be given a chance, tough call.

For all the Brown apologists i give you this...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38539137

Dated 14th January 2017

Vale a healthy 9 point cushion over a pathetic Oldham side with the worst attack in the country. Also 6 points and 2 games in hand on Shrewsbury.

Did Sheridan have a huge budget to buy a proven Vaughan or Sharp type?

Did he overhaul the squad or make do with what little he had?

How did he attain 16 more points than Port Vale in this period?

I will tell you how, by making them organised and hard to beat.

They still have a truly appalling scoring record of only 31 goals in 45 games yet are comfortably safe.

The game i have posted v Gills,, 9 of that team featured on Saturday against Rochdale so he has had to make do.

Before the Brown fan club harp on about Grant and Alnwick, i would say 80% of people on here wanted Grant gone, he was garbage, he wasn't trying, money grabber, blah blah blah.

Alnwick was a huge loss however Rangers were linked with him well before the final day of the window yet we had no plan B . Suddenly we were all shocked that 2 players went on the last day !!! Incredible lack of foresight by the club ( not necessarily Brown )

For goodness sake we had 9 cup finals when Mr Brown first came out with that quote.

7 cup finals have gone, we have failed to score in 6 of those.

If that is his idea of a cup final remind me never to attend a game where he is managing a team playing a testimonial match.

Didn't brown come out and say that some weren't training well? Like pereira? But then said that amaros had been training brilliantly and still dosent get a look in but instead picks Ryan Taylor over him week in week out.

JJ Hooper?

If you think that clown wants to play for Port Vale given where you used to play Ray your eyes must be going.

Turner, Hooper, Cicilia. Tough choice when you want to play 2 up front. You have all the answers. Make your choice REP.

The transfer window was dictated by (a)loss of key players (b)injuries ©the chairman's refusal to finances new signings.

In essence these were the only players available that cost nothing. Michael Brown wanted other players not the ones who signed but the chairman would not sanction them. Don't judge him on who he brought in.

It beggars belief that some Vale fans don't see this and also thay don't see that Michael Brown inherited the bulk of Bruno's overseas signings who are simply not good enough.

He didn't refuse to finance the deal, he matched what Bradford offered.

Brown should simply have tied him down earlier.

That is the problem, we will have to pay players extra to play for the Vale. Us or Bradford City is a no brainer.
