Terrible news. No age at all.

I guess there aren't too many who will remember Paul Bowles, a footballing centre half.

My condolences to his family and close friends and thanks for the memories.

RIP to Paul Bowles.

 

The team of the 1978-1981 was not suceesful (to say the least) but somehow were much loved by the Vale fans, who had to endure some awful results in a division lower than we are currently.

 

But Gerry Keenan, Paul Bowles, Peter Farrell, Felix Healy, Bernie Wright, the Chamberlains coming through, Kenny Beech, Phil Sproson, Russell Bromage, Neil Griffiths, Bill Bentley and quite a few others - somehow we felt they were 'our players' for all their bad results, and when Tony Sealy came on loan he became a cult hero instantly.

 

Happier, perhaps more innocent times, or is memory playing tricks ?

Very sad news of a very premature demise. I remember Paul Bowles well as a player as I was one of the faithful 'sufferers' during that period. However, we may not have had our best side then but it was a team of 'honest' players who gave what they'd got and we were a better team for it and Paul Bowles was one of the more capable footballers in the side as I recall.

I remember Paul well, we actually paid £30k for him in 1979, a fee we'd get excited about if we paid it today.
