This is all a symptom of lack of preparation around the Alnwick sale.

We signed a contract with Jak which included a minimum fee release clause. Therefore, we knew that at any point a club could offer that amount and have permission to speak to him. We agreed to this so from the minute he signed, we should've been preparing for this eventuality. Instead, it seems that we witnessed him playing out of his skin for 12 months and simply hoped nobody would be interested in a 23-year-old with Premier League pedigree who could be signed for 200k. When the inevitable happened, we pushed in an unready Boot before rishing through a loan signing who also doesn't look particularly ready.

We're paying a wage to 6 GK's, none of whom may be ready to perform at this level. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.

I've been disappointed with Fasan.

His kicking and penalty saves are his strengths.

He seems to lack confidence on crosses, often the ball is dropping right under the bar and he doesn't claim it.

This doesn't instill confidence in the back 4 and puts us under pressure.

That's surely another topic. This is more to do with selling Alnwick in January and not getting a replacement then (and also not getting a defender). The summer deals are a different subject. That's not to say that activity should not be criticised but I don't see how the summer deals had any impact on our January transfer failings.

Did the sheer numbers signed in the summer have an impact on the wage budget available in January, Rob?

We ' allegedly ' had a substantial bid for a player rumoured to be Rowe in January so funds must of been there, unless it was fabrication which wouldn't be unthinkable.

He's played a handful of games for Falkirk and they let him go. If we go down we'll need a tough experienced team to get out.

Absolutely spot on, if or when we in League 2 , a journeyman keeper with experience is probably a better option than Deniz Mehmet.

Surely not if the wages released from the Alnwick/Grant sales were available. That would be enough for two or three quality additions. And that's not counting the actual transfer fees that the club were handed.

I can see the point that summer activity has an impact but I still think one of the major issues for our current issues (the centre-half, striker shortages) was mainly down to how badly we performed in the January window.

And don't forget as well as Grant and Alnwick we also lost Macintosh, Santos, Ferguson and Haughton too from the wage budget. Have I missed anyone out?

That was before we sold Grant and Alnwick too.

The Rowe bid was rumoured to be £100k so add that to the £350k we received and we have nearly half a million for the summer to get back into L1.
