This is all a symptom of lack of preparation around the Alnwick sale.

We signed a contract with Jak which included a minimum fee release clause. Therefore, we knew that at any point a club could offer that amount and have permission to speak to him. We agreed to this so from the minute he signed, we should've been preparing for this eventuality. Instead, it seems that we witnessed him playing out of his skin for 12 months and simply hoped nobody would be interested in a 23-year-old with Premier League pedigree who could be signed for 200k. When the inevitable happened, we pushed in an unready Boot before rishing through a loan signing who also doesn't look particularly ready.

We're paying a wage to 6 GK's, none of whom may be ready to perform at this level. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.

Which is why, imho, we should have given another contract to Chris Neal in the summer and then sent him out on loan for six months.

That was before we sold Grant and Alnwick too.

The Rowe bid was rumoured to be £100k so add that to the £350k we received and we have nearly half a million for the summer to get back into L1.

And I'm guessing the Rowe money was first meant to have been spend on Alex Jones seeing as we had a 5 figure fee accepted.

EVERY club needs good, solid, reliable defenders -even Man City / Liverpool / Arsenal and Man Ure! Which is why finding them is like finding rocking horse droppings. In the meantime, if we happen to find a young player with bags of potential, which might make us money in the future - and not have a release fee in his contract - are some of you really saying we shouldn't sign him, because he's not some hairy-arsed bruiser of a centre half? Really - you're that shortsighted?

Indeed - that would be the same Lee Clark many didn't want as Vale manager???

Yes, I'm pleased I didn't need to spell out the message for at least yourself even if it may have been wasted on others.

I was disappointed when we didn't get him though this is not criticising Michael Brown who has had enough bad luck to last a lifetime in a baptism of fire coupled with a lack of support.

But Lee Clarke might have been worth 5 or more points, and what he has done at Bury could have been done at Vale Park and saved us. Vale are not done for just yet, but will opportunities run out soon ?

I think you've got to take into account the fact that they've got blokes in their side who are better at football than our lot are. They shouldn't really be doing as poorly as they are. They've won 4 out of 5 now but 3 of those were Coventry, Chesterfield and Swindon. You can't get a much better start than that, unless you add us into it.
Have they not had a few back from injury as well?
