442: worst ever Vale player

robf

Recommended Posts

Hi,

442 have come calling and asking for a feature on Port Vale's worst-ever player.

I am prepared to open it to a vote so please respond to this thread with the following:

1. Who you think Vale's worst-ever player is

2. Any memorable incidents involving that player (obviously ones suitable for a magazine such as 442).

I expect quite a few votes for people called Exodus and Martin but I look forward to your replies...

Rob

I would prefer to forget a few of the 'beauts' that have darkened our doorstep over the years especially in the dark days of the old 4th Division. Next season could see some 'crackers' parading their dubious talents if we are back in the basement.

For me the biggest disappointments were Martin Henderson, being that he replaced big Bob Newton who was a hero at the Vale and Peter Barnes, given his pedigree was absolutely shocking playing 3 games on loan. Having seen his career after us and if Wiki is to be believed he played for a further 18 clubs and 5 in 1989 alone.

I agree with the poster who feels it is cruel and vindictive to name players who did their best, and tried hard.

However, I don't mind naming a loan player who made it obvious he had not the slightest interest in trying or helping the club to win any games.

For me, the worst player for Vale was the strutting waste of space called David McGoldrick, an international million-pound player who joined on loan in 2007 and strolled through 17 games barely breaking wind, let alone any sweat.

In my opinion, by far the laziest, most disinterested waste of time we ever had, made much worse by the fact that you could see he had lots of talent but was not inclined to use it.

Truly, I hope we never see the like of such a lazy, useless, spineless jellyfish ever again.
