Shrimpers Groundsman Sacked

If the Shrimpers groundsman had all the kit available, failed to check the weather forecast, or did not take action if he did, then it would put himself on the line. There may well have been other issues. Maybe they are not used to a bit of cold down there?

There must be more to this than meets the eye. I live in Essex and the temperature dropped very low on Friday night, but it was forecast. I went for a walk on Saturday morning (about 20 miles from Roots Hall) and the grass was solid white at 9am. Lots of non league games in the county were lost. Usually someone is not fired for a single one off event so I can only summise that something else is afoot here.

To add to this story, it looks like he didn't cover the pitch correctly. A Bolton newspaper says: "An 11am pitch inspection from referee Charles Breakspear deemed a large part of the pitch unplayable... reports on the day suggested that the top grade of pitch covering had not been used to protect a problematic area of the pitch... The error was deemed sufficiently serious for Southend chairman Ron Martin to take swift action."

I hope when the chairman makes a k0ck up (cos he will) he takes swift action and dismisses himself.

Surely it's not a case of 'one strike and you're out'??

This was first game off in 4 years, I hope no other groundsman applies for the job and the assistant groundsmen(if there are any) leave for other employment as soon as possible. I don`t suppose this know it all chairman offered to help the groundsman put the covers on did he.
