Reality Check and simple facts

Reality check: According to the BBC website. Alex Jones states " as soon as I saw Bradford wanted me I dismissed any interest from any other club. Bradford are a massive club and I couldn't wait to sign.

Seems he dismissed us out of hand as soon as he knew they were after him and makes his sickness bug excuse laughable.

You never say Bruno's team whilst you were rubbishing it. If memory served you missed the decent stuff we played early on last year under Page too

I have never rubbished Brunos team, I have merely said that nothing I have read or seen on Tv would attract me back. Page was a buffoon.

Hes gotta say that though, pandering to the new fans.

I did think the timing of his stomach bug was suspicious though. Think his agent told him to stop playing as to not to risk an injury

Which 3 signings do you think are good enough?

Knops, Thomas, and de Freitas.

I guess there will be arguments for Cicilia, Taylor, Hart, Amoros, and possibly Kiko, but for me they are a regression on what we had in the same positions last year. Forrester did look quality until his inevitable injuries took over, which we were warned about.

Edit: Thinking about it, even if people think that Cicilia, Taylor, Hart, Amoros, and Kiko are good enough, that still leaves; Santos, Mbamba, Mac-Intosh, Pereira, Tavares, Shalaj and Ferguson,. All not good enough.

Issue 1: Crowds are declining due to poor marketing, increased prices, and poor on-pitch quality, which all lead back to Smurf, regardless of how many people attempt mental gymnastics to absolve him of any blame.

.

So what about the other 90% of clubs in league 1 and 2 who are also experiencing drops in attendance?

The man can't even make sure there is hot food for his customers in the paddock at half time.

And some trust him to run a football club?!

If it was just the football side of things he hadn't a clue about I'd cut him some slack but the marketing and the very basics down to getting a half time pie is shocking.

Get a grip! The last few times I have been I have had a pie and Bovril at HT no problems whatsoever. If no pie puts you off going you need give your flannel a drying.

I don't dispute your claim but is there any evidence?

Smurf's first full season as sole owner saw us with an average attendance of 6,249, the 11th highest in League 1. Every single year since the attendance has dropped, to the point where so far this year it is 4,421, the 20th highest in the league. We were 14th highest 14/15, 16th highest 15/16, and now 20th (I accept that there maybe some attendance boosting home fixtures still to come).

Even if "90%" of lower division clubs are losing fans, we are losing at a faster rate, or we would still be in the middle of the attendances, not the bottom.

Smurf seems to have become a massive pin cushion to pin all the failings of the club on. Sadly the biggest reason for our lack of progress has perhaps been our failure to ever get into the Premier league.

Wigan, Swansea, Bournemouth, Mk Dons, Burton, Fulham, Reading, Brightonare just a small selection of clubs who have been long above us when historically were much smaller clubs for a long period.

We have not been able to attract the additional investment they have causing us to slip behind with less room for us in the top two divisions

Posted by CPADE on the closed Alex Jones thread. "Smurf said to offer same would have made him (Alex Jones) joint highest paid at Vale".

If true then this was bad business by the Vale. It appears Alex Jones wasn't asking for any more money than we're paying to a current player, he wasn't asking for money that was way our of our league, we could have competed and given strikers command a premium should have competed, this is yet another poor decision. I live in hope that Vale will sign a player(s) who can contribute 15+ goals to the end of the season but words fail me. Michael Brown or whoever is appointed will be hung out to dry.

Absolutely spot on. But blame Smurf as a lot do on here! None of us know what money or terms etc were discussed so it's madness to keep blaming Smurf for players that choose to go elsewhere!

He was projectile vomiting in the dressing room 20 minutes before kick off. No doubt he called his agent first to check if that would be OK!

He has been totally respectful to the club and it's current and former management team. Setting aside emotion, which I realise is nigh on impossible, if you were given the choice of Vale or Bradford right now as a young ambitious footballer which club would you choose?

Compare the populations of some of them, they have never been smaller than us. Consider the income of people in Brighton, Fulham and Reading. Burton yes, a club in a good spell, will not last, Bournemouth backed by a Billionaire? Wigan likewise.
