Sad news that a true hero of the 20th century, Fidel Castro has passed away at age 90, outliving the evil figures that tried to plot his downfall for decades.

 

Even the Pope has used the same words as me, also describing it as sad news for a man who freed his people from a regime that was run by organised crime and the mob from Florida in the US and created a health service that was and is one of the best in the world.

 

It should also be remembered that one of Fidel Castro's first actions after gaining power was to visit Washington and try to have a good relationship with the US but Eisenhower refused to even speak to him.

Your disrespect is no surprise, your words could equally refer to Thatcher, Reagan, and many others they supported, Pinochet and the Contras for example.

 

Anyone who has ever visited Cuba knows how much the vast majority of the people there loved Castro.

 

You and the others who will no doubt rush in with similar dross cannot rewrite history and fail to understand it even, and your remarks echo Donald Trump's disgraceful outburst - you'd prefer his ideology of hate, greed and bullying no doubt.

Not in the accounts I've read. Nationwide mourning is how i understood it.

Castro was indeed prefereable to the appalling Batista regime that he overthrew but he was human and had his faults like any othere leader. The health care systems is a great achievement but taking the world to the brink of nuclear war in 1962 was not something to be proud of. There was good and bad during the Castro years - like any politician really.
