Paedophile coach at Crewe?

I wonder if the PFA knew of this. Given they are supposed to "there" for footballers throughout and after their careers.

An interesting question. Gordon Taylor has been at the PFA since the 80s so he will know what was or was not reported to them and what if anything was done.

There's plenty of dislikeable characters in football but I've always thought Gordon Taylor is an absolute axsehole. Pompous, hugely overpaid condescending toss-pot.

Inclined to agree with you, smithie. He would also make a good speaking clock - and he's supposed to be a leader.

No surprise really if the rumours of him meeting parents to sweep it under the carpet at Chelsea are true. That on top of anything he may have to answer for at Crewe.

Some lad's mother has been on TV claiming she told Gradi about her concerns of abuse at Crewe.

Didn't he say in a recent statement that he didn't know what was going on? Things are getting worse for him without doubt. The esteem he is held in, in terms of having the best interests at heart of the Crewe kids could come crashing down if these allegations of him being made aware are true. Of course that could have been part and parcel of why Bennell was got rid of by Crewe in the early 90s. Maybe they had no proof but we won't know until the full story comes out.

But looking at it now over 20 years later, it seems odd to me that things weren't investigated / reported to the authorities like they would be now, surely things weren't that different back then were they?

Yes they were... a hell of a lot different

I can see the defence from these guys (like Dario) is going to be looking at it from a standpoint of 25 or more years ago. Where maybe they weren't taken as seriously as now and maybe the support mechanisms weren't in place either back then.

It was just as serious back then but the mechanisms surrounding it were different... in a number of cases children simply werent listened to or believed, reporting of cases were usually local papers and low profile offenders. Victims were often questioned/viewed as though they had done wrong or making things up... and people couldnt or didnt want to believe.

29_30_40 years ago there was a stigma attached to being a victim, they were terrified of their abusers and not many wanted to be identified or admit they had been abused...

I believe cases are looked at as though they happened today but sentencing is scaled back to when the offenses occurred.... or similar
