Oldham offer

Tomo

Recommended Posts

It has been advertised at Staffs Uni and students in sports societies and courses have been emailed.

Advertising student offers in the local paper is not cost effective and how many non vale supporting students will ever be looking on the official site? NSure people just look for reasons to have a downer on everything the club do.

Well there's been two staffs uni students on here who are saying it's not been advertised at the uni at all, it's not been in the sentinel and it's not been on radio Stoke.

The price of advertising in the local paper compared to how many students will read the sentinel makes the decision a no brainer. I deal with Staffs Uni Golf Society and they said there has been emails so not sure if its just to sports students etc?

The marketing has been aimed at the target audience, which in my eyes is a good thing? What next? Blokes complaining the local ladies gym didn't let them know about their latest offer?

You don't need to be an NSU student (I'm not) to see that marketing from Vale is rubbish. You need only look at the last round of the FA Cup to see how we failed to promote the £12 tickets.

The same is happening with Round 2...our support is dropping and no one is addressing this.

Telling you, it's very poorly advertised.

Sports Students may have been emailed; but what about all 1000 of them? Most of whom already probably support someone else as they're naturally (I suppose) interested in sports.

What about the other 10,000-odd people there?

My comment on the local-media was tounge in cheek that we don't use whats around us very well in terms of local business', schools, universities (This could be advertised at Keele too?) etc.

Ive never seen a Sentinel at the Uni so it would be a stupid medium to use to get some info across. However, after checking, there is nothing in the student bars etc advertising the game.

Yes I agree we've picked a segment to target but COME ON - don't just expect them to take the offer because it's £5 a ticket - you have to rally around and put it everywhere.

Look at them down the road, they have billboards, newspaper ads, go to schools etc - they're everywhere!

I agree we need to massively improve our marketing, it's clear to see. Them down the road have a slightly bigger budget though so it's unfair to expect us to be able to produce the same output. What happened to the marketing guy who joined us recently, has he started yet?!

The target audience should be everyone, not just sports students.. and yes the "ladies" gym should also be included... we need people in the ground, not just sports people... people go to vale who have never played sport and/or have no interest in general sport activities.

Emails... I get between 10 and 20 per day that go straight to my junk folder which I scan through about once a week to see if anything interesting has slipped through... they are an effective tool if you can get people to read/open them... yes Im from a different era, I dont have a mobile phone implanted on my hip and I know some have to be surgically removed when an upgrade is needed.

I would have hoped the target audience isnt/wasnt just sports students... I would have hoped the target audience is/was students, of all ages, no matter what their topic of study is

I think we are flogging a dead horse with this one. Oldham on cold wet Tuesday night with a poor standard of football in the offing vs champions league football in the student union bar with cheap beer. For those with no association or inclination for Vale it's an easy choice regardless of how much it is marketed.

The choice of game tells you everything you need to know about marketing at the Vale. A night match in November with no decent transport to get them there.

You'd struggle to come up with a worse fixture to try something like this!
