I think it is a obvious that we all have differential views of what Nathan is worth. But I'm positively certain that we all have the same view regarding his current contract. It needs extending ASAP.

I agree about the contract extension but at the moment with a handful of games at League 1 level Smith is worth very little if anything. He is much better off playing regularly for the Vale than sitting on the bench or in the Under 21s with a Championship Club or bien at a dead end with a Premier League Club. I rate him highly as a player but realistically there would be no fee or only a very small one at the moment.

Can't agree with that. There's silly money around nowadays, and plenty of Championship Clubs wouldn't think twice about speculating on a talented young player like Smith. If he's on a longer contract, then the minimum Vale should ask and expect to get is £500K, at the moment. More, if he continues his form (and is on a longer contract - got the hint, Norm?)

We would be guaranteed a fee for Smith at the moment due to him coming up through our youth system and the rules around such things. I'm sure it's something along the lines of getting "x amount" for however many years he's been with the club and under a certain age still.

Face it, if some championship club offered say £2k a week he would be daft to turn it down given that he is probably on a tenth of that. He could always go out on loan from there to a League 1 club if he wasn't getting enough time on the pitch.
