Why is the alternative carrying guns?

Arent police dogs trained? dont they train with police men with protected arms? arent police drivers trained to cope with spiked tires? it seems to happen when they use spikes. Judges follow what the law prescribes and is set down, its not that much of a free will decision.

Again, Im not suggesting they shouldnt be used but I think knowing the effects will help with the decision when/if to use.

You mean it might make them hesitate cos they know how painful it is? I'm sure if some bloke was attacking you you'd love the police to hesitate and let you get a worse beating even if only for a short time

They are trained and have difficult decisions to make...sometimes they will use a taser appropriately but the tasered person will be harmed and maybe die. Sometimes they being human being will use the taser inappropriately and should be punished accordingly.

Most often they will use the taser appropriately, the tasered person will not suffer any real damage and the innocent will be protected as a result

They don't use them willy nilly

It remains to be seen what happened here

Not at all, simply to be able to make the appropriate decision knowing its effectiveness.

Do they taser people who have physical contact with other people at the time of tasering?... would the taser affect the person they have contact with too?

Over the last few months ive wondered whether you just argue ridiculous points to troll or for a laugh, or if you just are daft. Its an alternative to carrying guns because...well...they are! THey are a non-lethal weapons, where as guns are a lethal weapon. Not bloody rocket science is it. THey cut officer injuries by three quarters and have been credited with saving a lot of lives.

Police dont train with unprotected arms, so they wont know what the effects are, which is what you suggested! According to your logic, dog trainers should get bitten by their dog before being a dog handler. Its absolute nonsense.

Fairynuff but you don't need to be hit on the head with a truncheon to know that it hurts a lot.

Their training covers when to use it and when not to.

I would not know...but if the one being violent steps away momentarily maybe there is a window of opportunity..a short one so you'd not want the police hesitating whilst thinking how much it's going to hurt the one being violent...if anything that should not be in their minds at all they should be solely focussed on using their training to determine if the use of a taser is appropriate/warranted and then operating it as trained.

Truncheon???? bloody hell... but along those lines were they trained how much force to put behind the blow?... do you think it possible they may have struck their own hand to feel the effect?

Thats not my argument at all... when was the last time you used a british airport without seeing armed officers?... they do use guns but they are not used as a general issue weapon.

Is the taser none lethal?... you stated there have been deaths... surely all weapons are lethal

Does the charge from the taser run for a specific time or is it dependent on a trigger being released?

Possibly

No..not unless they are masochists or doing it for a bet..but not to understand how much it hurts.

I've nothing more to add until we know more about this case

Someone made a joke about us becoming the 51st state of the USA on another thread, mind you our police have a few hundred to catch up. At least it will be investigated properly here.

Great programme about police in New York last week, calling them 'the biggest gang in New York' and some very interesting and damning evidence from a couple of ex-NYC cops about the massive corruption and graft, which often extends to murder and effectively torture.

Boring

I know in certain situations police use guns, but thats not what we are talking about. Just another irrelevant point you seem to like arguing about. You must be bored.

As for the non lethal argument, thats what they are classed as (amongst other things), and regardless of that you understand my point was that they are an alternative to guns which are considerably more lethal. Pepper spray is also considered non lethal, but people have died from it. Again you are either trolling or daft. As for the last bit, try googling it if you want to know.
