Maybe Bruno doesn't rate Alnwick. Hardly been in sparkling form during pre season has he. Great shot stopper, not convinced about the rest of his game.

Need a striker not a goalie.Missed out on Nathan Tyson who at least knows where the goal is.Cant see where the goals will come from as we havnt scored in 3 games and Michael Brown is top scorer. Think Norman must be playing on Premier Manager between signings.

 

Once again that's got nothing to do with the strikers. They haven't had chances to score... We need a winger to create chances not a striker.

ive got to be honest, i like alnwick, on his day he can be a real good keeper, when performing last season i would say he was part of our 'spine' of the team, i'll be disappointed if we sign a GK

And me, personally I think Alnwick is brilliant and the best we've had since goodlad and that's a good compliment as Neal was a fantastic keeper as well. I also think boot is a very decent prospect from what I've seen of him and actually think he offers decent competition. Think it would be a waste to bring a keeper in.

totally agree, and to hear somebody say 'best since goodlad' means a lot towards alnwick because on his day goodlad could of gone into being a premiership keeper imo, was absoulutely gutted when his career ended.

I've not seen Boot so can't comment on his ability. However I think Alnwick is a very good keeper as good as Neal. Neal's weakness was shots from distance whilst Alnwick's Achilles heel are crosses

When Alnwick returned from injury last season he was shaky, very shaky, he's an excellent shot stopper but some of his decisions to come off his line were questionable, also he doesn't command his area or come for crosses. Dave Timmis leaving and being replaced by a coach whose English is poor doesn't help Alnwick either.

 

Many Vale fans, myself included, considered Chris Neal the better keeper and it was unfortunate that the club couldn't keep both of them.

A goalkeeper is part of the spine of a football team irrespective of who the 'keeper is. The goalkeeper is the most important part of the spine.

Absolutely, hence why a goalkeeper is the most important position in a football team, ask Roy Hodgson/Joe Hart. If you've ever played in a football team with a questionable goalkeeper you'd know.

Alnwick is the weak link in the defence, a very good shot stopper maybe,however his organisation is poor,fails to deal with crosses and does not instill confidence in those in front of him.

To be honest he did flap at his fair share of crosses last season. That's something he does need to work on.
