Christopher Mbamba signs

Maybe that these unknown to us are going to play for less than the money offered to the players who have left to join other clubs.

Hopefully one or two of them may turn out to be of good quality so that Smurf can eventully sell on to make a profit. ( Just trying to think how Smurf would think).

Smurf could not know just how good these new players are, so who is recommending them? Roberio, or someone else?

To be fair, none of us had ever heard of Enoch Andoh before he came to the club. Andoh was playing in Cyprus which isn't a very good standard and he turned out well for us.

Let's just judge when we've seen them play a few games eh?

You beat me to that, I was about to say the same. I hope people will at least give them a chance to play a game or two before casting judgement. Fingers crossed he turns out to be another Enoch or perhaps even better than him...

Good point.

Kyle Perry & Chris Slater were unheard of before joining the Vale.

I dont think we can judge any of the players until we've seen them play!! This season could be a disaster but it could have been a disaster if we'd stuck to the same formula we've tried previously. I think the people moaning now about the signings lacking experience in the english league would still moan if we'd have signed the normal journey players that they weren't exciting enough. I personally cant wait for the new season up the vale!!!

We're had high-profile signings that have bombed (Shane Tudor), we've had record signings that did great (Dean Glover), we've had people we've never heard of who bombed (Perry and Slater) and we've had others (Ian Taylor, Andy Jones, Stuart Talbot) who have done great.

So whether they are known or not or whether they have a poor reputation or not appears to have little bearing on their success or otherwise. The ultimate test is what they do in a Vale shirt. I hope we can at least give this guy (who hasn't even signed yet) that chance before judging him.

He can't be up to much if he hasn't been capped by Zimbabwe! We really need a couple of established League One players to get with these chancers, as you would think at least half of them aren't going to turn out as hoped.

They were.

It's a gamble... but I'm not a gambling man... I like risk - but a calculated one. I'd rather see a decent established winger on a one year deal with this guy signing a 2 year deal ... develop him slowly into our game and then see how we go.

Agreed.

In all honestly... after Englands performance in the Euro's I'm not crying out to go and sign English players. Just would like to see proven track records and consistency.. which we seem to have signed in Paulo Taveres. Especially if the championships the target.

Has a club the size of Vale ever been successful to get to Championship with this approach? Can't think of anyone..?
