They join the 48 senior teams from Leagues One and Two in a new competition which will offer prize money of £10,000 for every win and £5,000 per draw in the group stage and £100,000 to the overall winner.

I am opposed to this revamping of the EFL Trophy, but money talks - as the saying goes - and given the wealth of the PL I could be persuaded to think again if the Academy Teams were excluded from collecting prize monies.

Yes, daft idea I know

I'm out too- no chance this charade is getting my time or money.

******* everything these days is geared to increasing the divide between the Premier League and the lower leagues and it stinks. We get one trophy to realistically compete for and they turn it into a farce, it's ridiculous. I'm very disappointed the Football League stood for this absolute shitfest

we as fans can't do anything about the deal that has been struck. We can however make it an embarrassing spectacle for the tossers behind it by staying away in numbers.

That way we get their money and stick two fingers up as we do so.

Invited clubs will donate all or some of their share of gate receipts to a fund that will be shared equally by League One and Two clubs.

Group Stage - Invited Clubs will donate their 45% share to the fund.

Knockout Stage - Invited Clubs will retain 25% of their share and donate 20% to the fund.

Semi-finals & Final - Invited Clubs will retain 30% of their share and donate 15% to the fund.
