Premiership 16/17 Season

How did Liverpool get on in the States?

As always the Premiership threads are hijacked and become Liverpool threads, same posters always do it.

Can't we have a separate Liverpool thread please admins, so that those of us who wish to read and post about the other 19 teams as well can avoid being swamped by Liverpool material that is mot of much interest to many posters.

basically the first 11, up against a decent side in Mainz on there own turf who were much more up for it than the Liverpool players were.

And I expect it was the same in the Barca match, Liverpool were much more up for it than Barcelona were. Your not telling me that Mainz are better than Liverpool? Just like Liverpool aren't better than Barcelona.

It's pretty obvious that Liverpool were playing shitty old Mainz and couldn't be arsed. Barcelona were playing shitty old Liverpool and couldn't be arsed.

Barcelona didn't turn up expecting or wanting to be beat 4-0, even if it was just a friendly game.

Absolutely ridiculous logic.

I'm still staggered as to why anyone takes anything from results in pre-season friendlies. They are completely and utterly meaningless , went to Hamburg to watch Stoke play yesterday and fans were coming out annoyed because we lost 1-0. Utterly bizarre.....

Bang on the money. I remember in July 2007, we beat Sheffield Wednesday in a pre-season friendly and everyone was raving about how well we would do. We lost Sodje, imploded and got relegated.

Pre-season results are meaningless. They are about refining tactics, building fitness and honing a starting 11. The only results that matter are starting on August 6.

Neither did Liverpool against Mainz. But it happens. So should Liverpool now be worrying?

Or are Mainz on to win the German league because they beat Liverpool who beat Barcelona in a friendly match. Course it doesn't.

Why are Liverpool fans so over the top and deluded all the time?

So I'm deluded because I don't agree at all with your opinion. Haha, nice one! Thanks for humoring me.

Fine. Then against Barcelona I was much more impressed with the performance than the actual result. Or do both team and individual performances not matter at all in friendly games now too?

Calm down Colin.

Liverpool 4 - 0 Barcelona

We are going to win the league

Mainz 4 - 0 Liverpool

Friendly results don't count, it's all about the fitness!

Where did I say Liverpool were going to win the league? Please feel free to quote me. But we both know you're now completely making things up out of the blue to suit your argument, as I've never said anything of the like.

I'm not saying you. I was generalising Liverpool fans. Obviously there are exceptions. Not sure if you are one though!!

Liverpool fans are hardly the only one's to get excited though when they see a really good performance from there team. Granted, the one's insisting that we're suddenly going to win the Premier League, Champions League and World Cup are absolute numpties, but every club has it's minority. Personally I think Liverpool will finish top 4 this season, and I'll wager anyone here £1000 that Liverpool finish one of the top two highest goalscorers in the league.

Nope, none of it matters. Completely irrelevant you only have to look at the correlation between good and bad pre-seasons of the past with what actually happens when the real stuff begins. They mean jack s***

I'd rather they all be played behind closed doors until the season starts.....

Can't agree with that at all. If pre-season games didn't matter whatsoever and it was only about fitness then why not just have your squad of players run around there respective nearest lakes every day? I don't think any manager in the country would say that they weren't bothered at all if they lost every pre-season game and didn't perform at all. Not a single one.

I think Matip is going to be a wery important player for Liverpool next season. He is an ballplaying defender, with him and the defensive midfielders. Liverpool wil roll the ball at the back without losing it. That eil lure the opposition higher on the pitch. And rest the rest of the players from the effort to win the ball back, lost by a bad pass from defense. It will give more room for the offensive players to challenge space.

Because fitness with a ball during a match is different than just running. And I think lots of managers wouldn't care less about losing every friendly as long as the team were up to speed come kick off time, it's meaningless. Some of these two bit tournaments across the world are a joke, you win one but spend a week travelling and tiring your players out in the meantime. It's all to do with commercialism and nowt to do with preparing the team for the new season....

It's only meaningless and a joke to you. If managers and players thought the same thing they wouldn't bother to enter these pre-season tournaments. I agree that pre-season has a lot to do with building fitness but wouldn't ever agree that friendlies mean nothing and that any player or manager doesn't care about losing games of football. You also can't tell me that if Stoke City lost every single friendly during the summer and didn't perform that you wouldn't be somewhat concerned heading into the season - Absolutely no chance!
