I would love it to happen, but he will know that he risks joining people who are still heroes to me - Dean Glover, Martin Foyle, Mark Grew and more - for their former associations as players with the club, who have been the target of some disgusting abuse because they took on new roles and a small but very vocal number of people didn't like it.

If he did come, I wish him well and have no doubt he will do his best and contribute a lot, but he may well wonder if he needs the hassle and challenge compared top sitting back as a much loved and greatly respected figure at both Potteries clubs.

I was having a conversation with Stupers and he suggested Foyle as the head of recruitment and the more I think about it, the better idea it seems. He's a far more likely/ suitable candidate than Rudgie. JR is retired, Foyle is one of JR's players, knows the club and has done a similar role at Northampton.

JR isn't retired - he works for Hull City.
