Shame. Overall I think Vale history will remember him fondly and he was one of our better players last season. Is he replaceable? Probably, given his pedigree when he joined as a youth player from a lower end Championship club (albeit now PL champions) and a season on loan in the fourth division. I hope whoever we do replace him with plays as many games and scores as many great, memorable goals as Dodds did for us. Best of luck to him.

People surely dont believe that Smurf will back the new manager do they?

The thing is you never really know what Smurf is going to do next, that's the joy of having him as our chairman!

He may well say that the budget might be a reduced, players have to take pay cuts etc.

But as has been seen in the past 12 months, he changes his mind like the weather.

That was proved by the fact he said there was no money left in the kitty to fund new loan signings/short -term signings then a few weeks later he went and signed both Theo Robinson and Matthew Kennedy on loan from Cardiff!

Well marmite is going then? I thank him for his years at Vale but come on there honestly are better and more consistent players out there that our new manager will concentrate on. Good luck doddsey but if we are a Club that want to improve we do really have to move these type of players on. Jean, old and a few others may mourn his loss but at the end of the day we support Port Vale, not players that blow hot and cold.

Yes we do support Port Vale, but does the chairman.

You are not at all put out, well I certainly am, not just because of Doddsy, who will be a loss despite what other posters think. He will not be the last to go, meanwhile as the saying goes, Norman fiddles while Vale burns.

He's had a good year but on average, he's robbed a living from us over the years.

He seems a nice lad and I wish him all the best but I'm not at all put out by this news

I suspect it will be more than "a few others" who miss him. I will wait to see if we sign anyone better. Ultimately, he played 300 games for us and scored 50 goals. His longevity will be missed, if nothing else. How many players do we have who have played even half as many for us? Duffy? Birchall, over 2 spells? Yates?

A couple of more seasons and a deserved testimonial would have had him remembered as a legend but credit to this guy he has played alot of games and has been through the highs and lows with us so I wish him good luck for the future and thanks for the effort Doddsy lad.

I think people are missing a major point here. It doesn't matter how good he is, or if you like him or not, it's that players like him are leaving. If he's going then most others will follow. Doddsy has stayed with us through our toughest times in recent history, so something (or someone) is really wrong behind the scenes. Page and Doddsy are just the start of the exodus imo.

He played 25 games a season on average, 8 from the bench.
