Aside from Rashford and Vardy I wouldn't let any of them play for the country again.

 

Outstanding though from Iceland.

Hodgson should swap jobs with Corbyn they are just as useless as one another.

Players were awful (apart from rashford - took an 18 year old to run at them and take the game to the opposition) but the total blame goes to the manager. No system, no tactics, playing players who are out of form, no urgency. He should walk tonight.

Hodgson just made too many mistakes:

 

1) Wilshere instead of Drinkwater

 

2) Sterling instead of anybody

 

3) Kane taking free kicks

 

4) Resting players for the Slovakia game when points were still required.

 

As for the team, one thing was clearly missing when the chips were down. A leader. Rooney is not that man.

The manager has resigned, and rightly so - but to blame the manager only is as sloppy and short-sighted as England were on the pitch.

 

Players like Rooney, Sturridge, and Alli put in league 2 performances, and only Rashford can be satisfied with his contribution.

 

A manager can only prepare a team - if several players, up to about 8 or 9 of them, play their worst game for a year or more all at the same time, then the problems are deeper.

 

It is a sad fact that English players are technically poor, motivationally challenged, lacking in vision and skill, and have not beaten a decent team in a meaningful match for some years. The only win in this competition was thanks to a last-gasp goal against Wales.

 

I also think Iceland deserve the highest praise, like Wales they have been shining examples of what can be achieved by positive play focused, organised play and by players who do not think they are God's gift to football because they earn a lot.

Truly shocking, it doesn't get any worse than that. Not since Graham Taylor has an England manager looked so confused and out of his depth. Hodgson not only confused himself but confused the players as well, England's poor play was mainly of Hodgson's making. If the reports are true, good riddance.

 

Well done Iceland, well organized, physical, passionate and had a game plan, everything England didn't have.

IF we had beaten Iceland then lost to France I could have accepted that, but ruddy Iceland, there ar'nt even any professional football teams in Iceland.
