There's one more friendly left but as it stands, based on performances over the last week or so, I think the 11 to play against Russia should look something like this -

Hart

Walker

Cahill

Smalling

Rose

Dier

Milner

Wilshere

Alli

Rooney

Kane

Subs -

Forster

Stones

Clyne

Lallana

Sterling

Rashford/Sturridge

Vardy

I thought Stones played well tonight but think the tournament has come perhaps 12 months too soon for him to be a starter. Milner and Dier sitting in front of the back four offers good protection for a vulnerable defence and allows Wilshere and Alli to link up with the front two. If you want to attack a little more you could always drop Rooney into midfield and replace Milner with Vardy or Sterling.

I don't, and never have, see what Henderson offers. What is he good at/does he specialise in - scoring...creating...passing...tackling...controlling/dictating a game? He does none of them, for me. But you just know that Hodgson will take him, as he's one of his favourites.

Lallana isn't up to international standard either - far too lightweight. Barkley is incredibly frustrating - bags of talent and skill, but continually makes the wrong decision or gets caught on the ball. Wilshere, too, has the habit of running up too many blind alleys and hanging onto the ball too long.

But the biggest weakness by far is the defence, which is p-poor and just waiting to be taken apart by the first half-decent team we come up against.

At least we've got quality at the other end to hurt teams, in Kane and Alli, and to a diminishing extent, Rooney.

We should make the Quarters due to the bloated format of the tournament meaning facing lesser teams early on, but at that point we'll be playing teams with better quality and more clinical finishing, and that's when it'll be Goodnight Vienna (or in this case Lille or Paris!)

We're talking about international football aren't we?

If so, then Rooney, Kane, Vardy and the rest have it all to prove.

I hope we do really well, but many of our players haven't yet proved anything on the international stage.

When they've scored as many (vital) international goals as the likes of Charlton, Hurst and Greaves I'll accept your point but not yet.

Roy has confused himself with his tactics and more importantly he's confused the players. The team lacked any fluidity or cohesion and a team with any quality in the last third would have buried us by Half Time. Why play players in positions they're not used to/comfortable in and don't play for their clubs. Vardy wide left in a 4-3-3 doesn't work and poor Rashord ended up out wide right in a 4-3-3 and that didn't work either. Wilshere as a holding midfield player is a non starter.

Would have thought an International manager would know to find a system that suited his best players not choose a system and then fit players into it regardless. Roy has lost the plot.

Exact team I would pick. Only possible change would be Stones instead of Smalling as I think he performed better against Australia.

Let's face it, how much strength in depth do we have? If we did we'd have more English players at the top of the Premiership in all positions. That we haven't speaks volumes.

Its true, an example is callum chambers at arsenal, bought for sixteen million, and now wenger is thinking of sending him out onloan next season.

Wouldn't take sturridge until he can sort his head out. Can't risk him waking up the morning of a big game and not quite feeling up to it.

Agreed, moody individual, doesnt seem or show any any enjoyment in playing football.

I think his goal-scoring record for Liverpool shows that he's more 'up for it' much more often than not.

If he's fit enough to play a part he absolutely has to go as he's far too good a player to miss out.

Lots of strength in depth in midfield and up front, and also at full-back. It's only the central of defence that is a problem in the side, and part of that is only because we've been blessed with some outstanding centre-backs over the last 20 or so years when you consider the likes of Adams, Campbell, Ferdinand and Terry.
