Maybe this story highlights starkly the need for Norman S to be sensible in his budgeting for Port vale? A number of fans who constantly complain about the lack of money should think hard and long about encouraging the chairman to add to the club's debt--be warned the consequences can be dire as Portsmouth and now Bolton can testify to!

Phil Gartside is the Bolton Chairman. I know he is ill at the moment and I can have sympathy for his personal situation but I have no sympathy whatsoever for the problems he has helped to create at Bolton. He was the man who wanted the Premier League to be a closed shop with no promotion or relegation then later he decided he would rather have a two tier Premier League with no relegation from the second tier but bringing in Rangers and Celtic. If Gartside had his way the romance that is Bournemouth this season could never happen and Bolton, despite their ludicrous financial management of recent years, would remain in Prem 2 no matter how badly they performed on the pitch. Madness.

When the chairman has a mindset and logic like that then it's easy to see why Bolton have ended up 180m GBP in debt. Famous, storied club, hope they survive.
