Left Back For The Season

Who do we all think is going to be our main left back this season? Yates seems to be first choice right back, Owen and McCombe seem to be first choice centre backs. That would leave Lee Collins as left back. However we now have Roe and Green who have both impressed so far in pre-season.

 

As Owen is injured at the moment, they are both getting their chance as Collins is starting in the middle.

 

Personally, I think I'd keep Collins in the middle and play one of the other two. Which one thoigh? No idea yet!

For me it has to be Green on first impressions although he looks better going forwards than defensively.

 

Great to have selection dilemas and proves Micky is doing the right things by building a squad that will all challenge.

I think it's the strongest the defence have been for a while. When the rumours of Collins leaving were being spread about, everyone was a bit worried because it would have left us with pretty much four defenders! We now have seven or eight!

green left back and then owen in the middle with either collins or boomboom. id probably go for collins but would be bad on boomboom after his good season last year. its a top problem to have though with competition for places everywhere in the team

if owens out then the back 4 will be yates mccombe collins and green.

The two Sheffield united youth players Roe the left back and James a centre back who can play defensive midfield are first year professionals and perhaps it is a bit early to consider them in the first team mix....Johnson the youth team goalie and Raglan the right back are also now first year professionals and along with Davis from the youth team that is a young back five for the future.

However the first choice back four when all fit has been Yates/McCoombe/Owen/Collins with Thomlinson in goal.....with Green and McDonald on the bench as replacements for Taylor and Sutton not to forget Chris Martin....

that would seem to be the matchday squad with the kids as back up and the

only possible weakness is right back cover because Sutton was a right back as well as a centre back....then again amongst the senior players Griffith has played regular spells at right back throughout his career.

lee collins has gotta be there but he's immense at CB, he has pace and alot of skill that is required for a left back but has an advantage of height. what a great player he is though

From the first half of last season up until Christmas, Yates Owen McCombe Collins would of been first choice no discussion.

 

But after Christmas a lot of players went of the boil. Collins had a nightmare 2nd half of the season.

 

Its up to the players to play for their place. Competition for places is a brilliant thing to have and should bring out the best in everyone as they know if they dont perform theres someone waiting in the wings to take their place.

It's a tough call but a good problem to have. I personally would start with the standard back four we had most of last season and challenge the new lads to try and worm their way in.
