Bus from Stoke railway station

Recommended Posts

Making my first visit to Vale Park for some time tomorrow for the Blades game and I was wondering if people had much experience of using the bus from Stoke station up towards Vale Park?

I'll be getting into Stoke at 2.01pm and I know there are buses up to Burslem (the no. 3 service, I think), but I'm not sure how long it's likely to take on a busy Saturday afternoon with traffic maybe busy around Vale Park, too,

The alternative is to take the train to Longport, getting in at 2.40, which is a bit tight for a brisk walk up the hill to Burslem and having to call in at the ticket office. A few times before I've cycled up from Stoke station but there are several changes on the journey this time as it's a dirt cheap ticket, so I don't want the hassle of all that with a bike, too.

I've just checked the timetables.

The buses (#3) are SCHEDULED every 10minutes from Stoke Station. The quickest one you can get is the one scheduled for 14:03. That one is due to get into Burslem by 14:36, it'll probably be a couple of minutes late, but trying to get to the bus stop in 2 minutes is a push.

The next one is 10 minutes later, which means it will supposedly get to Burslem 10 minutes later, so 14:46, you can walk from Burslem town to the ground in 15 minutes, but that's provided the buses are on time.

It costs £2.20 a ticket ATM I think, you may be able to get a day pass for £4

Can you buy tickets on the day?

Thanks for all the replies and helpful suggestions. In the end, having missed the vital first train from Horsham because I was sent to the wrong platform (aaaagh!), I didn't get into SoT until 14.58, so booked a private hire cab online as I went and got to Vale Park in time to hear the cheers as Daniel scored! Gutted to miss that, but of course I did see Uche's goal.

Fine performance and although it's such a long journey, well worth it. Now I've found a cheap route (£14.50 return from not far from the south coast with my senior railcard) I'll be making one or two more visits and make sure I get on the right platform next time.
