Rotherham United’s Kirk Broadfoot has been handed a 10-match suspension by the FA after targeting Wigan Athletic’s James McClean with verbal abuse.

Broadfoot, a Scotland international and former Rangers defender, was charged for misconduct following an altercation with the Republic of Ireland winger during a match against Wigan on 14 March. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of £7,500 and complete an education programme.

An FA statement said: “Following an independent regulatory commission hearing, Rotherham United’s Kirk Broadfoot will serve an immediate 10-match suspension after a misconduct charge against him was found proven.

“The charge was that during a league fixture between Rotherham and Wigan Athletic on March 14 2015 Broadfoot used abusive and/or insulting words towards a member of the opposition. Broadfoot was also fined £7,500 and ordered to complete an education programme.”

I would be embarrassed if he played for vale and certainly wouldn't be paying money to watch a ******* of his nature. Imagine if he was playing in Afghanistan / Saudi Arabia etc. Would he turn his back then after all these people murdered innocents all over the world???? I doubt it, all because our country is a soft touch.

Ive got no idea what point you are trying to make?

From the picture it doesnt look like he turned his back on the flag, it looks like the others turned to face it and he stayed standing forwards, side on, head down with hands behind his back. Some media sensationalism going on maybe. Can any who saw it say if he turned his back to it, or just didnt turn to face it.

'Media sensationalism'?If you are still unsure, best have a word with TP,McClean's manager is certain what went on.

"Mirror Sport understands McLean, 26, will avoid a fine but has been told not to repeat his actions and to modify his stance."

Who the hell does TP think he is!!!!!!! A fine for what..for being honest to his feelings? Modify his stance?? Who is TP to tell him what his stance should be.!!!??

"Ex Sunderland wideman McClean has previously explained his refusal to wear a poppy in an open letter to Wigan fans who were unhappy with his stance."I am very proud of where I come from and I just cannot do something that I believe is wrong. In life, if you’re a man you should stand up for what you believe in.”

Quite right..who are we to tell him that he should wear a poppy. Are we telling him that he should be a hypocrite and not be honest to his feelings or that he should not have such feelings? Lets set the thought police on him.

Hopefully he'll feel that he can do the same if he wants to rather than being pressured into being a bypocrite.

I think the census is if he doesn't like what this country is about go home he is hypocritical living here playing football here letting his children if he has any grow up here but then turn his back on our traditions

I think the consensus is that it's up to him what he does. Some people like to go on about how certain countries deprive people of their human rights yet they're happy to say someone should be thrown out of their country for not singing the national anthem? Stupid hypocrites.

EDIT: What Johnnyaitch said...

I was born in England but you'll never catch me singing the anthem.

Mr h I don't want him to sing if he doesn't want to but he should stand there correctly if a player did that in a World Cup he'd be berated by everyone people talk about the behaviour of fans during national anthems the players should set an example

If a player was in a World Cup he wouldn't be standing there (other than the oppositions) for a National anthem that wasn't his own.
