I don't get this "you owe the country" business, he contributes his skills , he gets paid, why should he have to go native? He isn't biting any hand, he's just not joining in a song.

I agree with that aspect. I love all things Australian but would not sing the national anthem, that said I wouldn't turn away from the flag that lets me live in its country and earn a wage, that's the despicable thing.

He's here to exchange labour for wages, that contract is equal on both sides, not some gift from "the country" . What he owes the country is his taxes, if he doesn't pay those, I'll get me pitchfork. Mind you, there are a few wrapped in the union flag who aren't the best at that either.

Isn't it simply good manners and respect to the country you choose to reside in,unless of course you are just an economic resident or a member of the SNP,try turning away from the flag and anthem in Scotland?:nailbiting::D

Christ I know two 'yes' campaigners that would be stringing you up if you did! He seems just a bit dim.

I asked two mates of mine who are doctors in Perth and hail from Derry, they both agreed he's an 'attention seeking pillock'.

Bizarrely, my original post has been entirely deleted. I appreciate why the first half was but not why the second half, below, was...

Why should he bow (or whatever) to the national anthem of a country that murdered his countrymen?

It takes time to edit a post as opposed to deleting it... some posts are easy to edit some more difficult to edit and make understandable... for consistency and to save my time I delete.

I would be embarrassed if he played for vale and certainly wouldn't be paying money to watch a ******* of his nature. Imagine if he was playing in Afghanistan / Saudi Arabia etc. Would he turn his back then after all these people murdered innocents all over the world???? I doubt it, all because our country is a soft touch.

I know a fair few Derry lads and even shared a house with a couple of them during my student years.

I don't always agree with them but I do understand why they feel the way they do.

Exactly. For example, I'm not a religious person but I respect peoples rights to worship as they please.

From the picture it doesnt look like he turned his back on the flag, it looks like the others turned to face it and he stayed standing forwards, side on, head down with hands behind his back. Some media sensationalism going on maybe. Can any who saw it say if he turned his back to it, or just didnt turn to face it.
