James McClean

Bizarrely, my original post has been entirely deleted. I appreciate why the first half was but not why the second half, below, was...

Why should he bow (or whatever) to the national anthem of a country that murdered his countrymen?

His reasoning is simple and justifiable: he is from Derry in Northern Ireland, a town which experienced abuse first hand at the British army, who killed innocents in ****** Sunday.

If McClean despises our flag so much why didn't he refuse to face our flag when England played the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly at the Aviva Stadium last month while the English (and British) national anthem was played?

In my opinion,it is a real insult to the country where he earns his living, don't bite the hand that feeds you James.

England v Republic, respect the oppositions anthem, WBA's anthem isn't God Save the Queen do why should he join in? If they played Boing, Boing, Baggies then he should pogo with the rest of them but not domeone else's national anthem.

I don't think he'll last until Christmas at the Baggies,he's already been warned by Pulis and his actions do nothing for team camaraderie, nothing but negative PR attention for the club,he simply won't get away with it with Albion fans and probably end up at Celtic.

It is the national anthem of all our football clubs,of the country that has welcomed McClean and he has insulted it to make a crude political point.

Can you imagine if any footballer playing abroad, from any country in the world, did what James McClean did to the national anthem of his host nation?

Don't really care about the national anthem. He's not English, he just didn't take part. If he played in the usa should he put his hand over his heart too. I'm English and don't sing the national anthem, because I don't agree with a monarchy, and I'm not nationalistic in any way and don't see the point in it really. As for the poppy, I don't wear it for what happens in Ireland, Iraq or any such place. I wear it for those in ww2 where being in the army wasn't a career choice but a responsibility. Having said that, I hate the public shaming and bullying that says people should wear one. Because once something like that becomes dictated about, it means nothing, and that is a bigger disrespect to those men and women than not wearing one.
