There's an article on the front of OVF. Interesting character - he has worked in Rugby League as well as football. He's worked for the likes of QPR, Crystal Palace, Oldham and Plymouth as well as Coventry.

I guess it overlaps with what a manager does but equally frees up the manager to focus on tactics, selection....

If the new guy can get that extra 5% out of the players then that could just be the difference

Seems like fitness and conditioning is a large portion of the role, more specialised coaches I can only see as a good thing, something we have lacked in recent years.

What is the job description for a "performance coach?" At this rate we'll have more backroom staff than squad members. I'm probably being a tad negative, but I personally would prefer the wages to go into on-pitch signings, rather than off it! Anyone else have this same feeling?

Well if performance coach means getting the players fitter overall, and being injured less, then I am all for it. How many times did we concede late in the game last season? It would be great to be the team that can play for 95 minutes per game and get some late winners ourselves, because we are still able to keep going to the end. Some of our players seemed to struggle after 75 minutes last year - so it will be interesting to see how our fitness regime changes, and whether he is a fan of the long runs as Micky was. It would be interesting to hear his views on players drinking too. I'm pleased to have him here.

I'm quite impressed with the quality of backroom staff we are building. I'm not sure we have had the infra-structure to develop players in recent years and Page does seem to be developing a team around him. We seem to have been quite good in recent years at developing players at youth level (credit to Ede) and then that development has seemed to stop at 18, whereas there is a structure in place now to develop players through to the first team. Can't see Smurf having spent so much on developing Page's backroom staff getting shot this season, as there will end up being a pile of redundancy payouts to make!!
