give me strength

Mr Hob a couple of seasons ago my company paid a small 5 figure sum to sponsor the back of the shirts.

I could undertake further financial sponsorship but to invest that I need to know that I am working with a competent, professional, organisation.

Clearly PVFC is not, so the money will not be invested.

So actually image and public perception do count for quite a lot.

Other clubs actually have competent marketing and admin staff.

Ones that have average home gates of 9000-plus since 1980 ? Some of us haven't forgotten your coetant post that stated that about Vale a couple of weeks ago. No big deal, but anyone can make a mistake, yes ?

One wrong size envelope, and it all kicks off. How do you know that wasn't the only envelope left in the office and they wanted to use it up or one of a number of other possible reasons - you don't, but couldn't wait to jump on the moaner bandwagon again.

Andy Jones is right, its the image the club gives,Mr Hobblesworth must be happy, after all "We are where We are"

It doesn't give me that image but I don't spend my time working myself in to a tizzy and feeding some petty vendetta by getting a froth on over an envelope. I prefer to concentrate on the many many things that are improving around the club and all the excellent work that the chairman is doing.

That's fair enough, but he does have a point, it isn't very professional and wastes money.

Go on then I'll bite, what has the chairman done? I think he's mucked up the playing side by interfering, you tell me one improvement.

Off the field the plus point would be the Club Shop. Offset by the poor footfall design of the ticket office that hinders throughput.

In the lounge a more realistic pricing policy on meals has been popular.

On the field provided sufficient investment to get out of league 2

However doesn't appear to have the finance to take us further and no sign of any policy to attract wider investment creating a more visionary Boardroom than his current go it alone policy.

In general I believe he is an extremely good negotiator which has created success for him in non-retail environments. Unfortunately for him he now owns a business that is heavily dependent on keeping his customers happy and he appears to have the knack of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Just my view that's all.

Oh yes...and the Development Squad - which seems to have been the Chairman's vision - has just won the league! (see other thread)

Had a letter from the club this morning acknowledging my renewal

It was a single sheet of A4 paper that any normal company would fold down to keep to minimum postage cost with a window envelope showing my address as printed on letter.

It came in a cardboard 're-unforced' A4 envelope so the club paid large letter postage with an envelope that is twenty times more expensive than necessary and with a handwritten address by what looked like a child.

About as unprofessional as you could possibly imagine in application and image.

Probably not as unprofessional as those plaques you gave supporters for 100 quid.

Any business looking for people to invest [give it money] has more chance of getting it if it presents itself in a professional manner.

Showing the business as a well oiled machine of competence and ability inspires confidence in the investor [giver].

The gate receipts are obviously insufficient to fund aspirations so finance has to be sought elsewhere... sponsors, advertisers, corporate etc etc... which has to be priced correctly, pitched right and inspire confidence in the ability to deliver... the most effective way to do that is to have a system that is an easy flow, simple application on a day to day basis, apply it to everything and nothing slips through the net.

Hard core vale fans wouldnt mind if letters were sent by pidgeon.... some wouldnt care if the match day programme was hand written on A4, photocopied and stapled... but the advertisers might.
