Milija died in South Africa aged 61 in Oct 2012.

I was there for this game.....sat in the old wooden stand at Gay Meadow. They were in Division 3 above us, weren't they? We beat them in the replay on the Monday night in the good old days when replays were the following week. I remember going Watford in the 3rd Round and losing 2-0....long way in them days!

Ive just bought that programme, as Milija was a very close mate and we went school together at St Patricks RC, London Road, Newcastle .We spent most weekends either at the Brampton or Bradwell playing football.He was a smashing lad and his family,who owned Roseville taxis were great too.He even ironed his bootlaces!!!His father insisted that he learned a trade ,just in case a serious injury curtailed his career.Sensible dad:yes:However Gordon Lee didn't agree so he released Milija.He went on to play for other clubs then in 1981 he played for Spurs in the centenary FA Cup final when they beat Man City!! He didn't forget his roots and came back to Newcastle Fire Station, where I worked,with his winners medal and we went across to Blessed Thomas Maxfield School to show the kids the medal.He moved to South Africa and sadly died days before flying back for a family celebration in 2012.His family were devastated . Well respected by all fans at the clubs he served so well including Vale,Stafford Rangers,Luton,Plymouth,Tottenham to name a few.

It would be interesting to hear what Ray Williams can add ,as he played with Milija at Stafford alongside our Mick Cullerton.Sad to note also that Milija sold his Centenary FA Cup winners medal for £6000 a few years ago.
