Smurf disgusted with 'away only' Vale fans.

The thing is, Barry, he didn't have to say it and he's achieved absolutely nothing positive by doing so.

Norman needs to focus on encouraging people to come rather than disparaging those who don't.

Why shouldn't he be allowed to express his opinion - God knows, some of the rubbish he has to read or listen to. If it made him feel better by saying it, then that is positive and he is encouraging people to come in other ways by funding new players, scrapping the £3 extra match day charge etc.

Maybe some people are too used to living in places that don't like people being honest and saying what they think.

Simple solution. Get the train from Kidsgrove or Stoke, get off at Longport and get a police escort into Burslem. We should then congregate in away fans only pub and claim a result. We should all go in the hamil end and give the home ends over to away fans. If we sell out the hamil (4,500) then we can infiltrate the home ends and act all "massive". We should sing we've taken your town, Burslem's a **** hole I wanna go home, invade the pitch when we score, smash the concourse up at half time. That's the experience we're looking for.

Nice try, but if you have ever in your life been responsible for selling anything more than a copy of the Sentinel, you would know that philosophy would not earn you much business.

I can't believe this is a common problem, if it is the question the club needs to ask these people is why they choose to do this and try and get them back to Vale Park.

Perhaps we should offer away match tickets in priority order of people who attend home games:

so season ticket holders get first up, then people who have attended more than half the home games, then people who have been the last home game and then finally any left go on general sale on a home matchday.

If I go to an away game I usually try to pay on the day unless it is all ticket, which isn't very often. So there is no easy way to control away ticket sales.

Can't see it catching on myself?

I know Smurf was talking about fans in the local area and attracting those who stay away but what about those who live out the area (me included although I am a ST holder) and pick and choose home matches? I think it would be good if you could buy a railcard for say £30 a season (just as you can buy other railcards) and then say get 25% of train fares. This could apply for all fans of all clubs and would entice people if cost was the main issue for people. Obviously this would need a lot of support from the clubs in the first place and of course from the rail companies but if a football fan railcard came out it would bring back supporters to clubs.

In all seriousness, I think giving us the Hamil End would go someway to improving the experience for home fans. A small number of fans can create a much better atmosphere than we do from the paddock, the facilities are better, and it's about time we had an "end" like how the Bycars was back in the 90's. We should even look at making it a fraction cheaper to encourage more people in there. The Bycars will never be what it was back then, so letting us have the hamil may be something to look into. I know it's been mentioned before and ditched, and I don't buy the idea that police won't allow it. It's our ground we should decide where fans go. Give away fans the paddock, or finish the other half of the lorne street and give them that. If away fans went in the paddock we could park the buses right next to the entrance in the same way we do now. They won't need the whole stand so we could section half of it off, like Leeds do now in their main stand.

I've said this before, but if we could finally finish the Lorne Street and get the cameras over on to the paddock, our stadium would look so much better than it currently does on the highlights. Would give a much better image of our club than we do currently. Won't happen, and I'm sure some people will shout about how they'll never leave the paddock (why I'll never know), but in my opinion this would help.

The paddock is the best stand in the stadium?

I don't think it is. The atmosphere is shocking unless you're in there yourself. Often away fans can't hear us. The Hamil End has got much better facilities, and a small number of away fans can easily sound louder than the paddock. Imagine the number of fans we get in the paddock, all going in the Hamil End. It would create a brilliant atmosphere. I'll never forget the Southampton FA Cup match.

RZ, I agree it would cost quite a bit and that's something I appreciate, but I think it would be worth it. The fact it is still incomplete affects the whole image of the club. Imagine the view of the stadium with cameras from the paddock. All enclosed, 3 decent stands, all with Vale fans in. Other than the Bycars, we'd actually have fans in the images instead of yellow seats. The paddock is that far from the pitch that you rarely see it in the highlights.

Wolves (usually), Blues, Stoke, Baggies, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and plenty more manage to have home and away fans in the same ends without any major problem.

When you consider the size of most away supports in Division 3 this season, they could easily be accommodated in the Hamil.

I agree that it would improve the atmosphere no end at least at that end of the stadium.

I really can't see how the police can have much input on this idea.

FST, I agree completely with you.

It has been suggested many times that the Hamil End should be where the majority of our fans be housed. Apart rom the "atmosphere" that would be generated the facilities are massively better there than the Railway Paddock/stand and surely would "attract" some more fans to watch Vale in a decent, well run atmosphere?

There has never been an "official" comment from Vale as to why we cannot allow away fans to utilise the Railway Paddock. I agree their fans could be policed easily there as usually there is only a handful/few hundred of them to cope with.

There are many complaints from fans who use the Railway that the loos and catering facilities are pathetic so why not let away fans go there instead?

I realise some may argue on the basis that they have been in that Stand/Paddock for years but come on, for a better atmosphere, better facilities and not least allowing away fans the "crap" alternative, then why don't Vale seriously investigate doing this swap?

I would like a reasoned response from Vale because I feel by utilising Hamil End for Home fans would increase the experience and make for better noise/atmosphere/following for us at Home games.

What are Vale fans feelings/thoughts on this?
