Good luck to Norton United.

Good luck indeed.

A few people have asked how the Smallthorne club came to be known as Norton United?Well, from 1966-77 they were known as Hazelhurst Arms FC who were a Sunday league side and played in the Ind Coope league and later the PDSL,winning the Division 1 title, the league cup and the Congleton Chronicle Cup three times. In 1977 they moved home and changed their name to Norton United playing at Community Drive. They were a very successful Sunday team winning numerous trophies including three times winners of the Staffs Sunday Cup,twice PDSL champions,League Cup winners and Midlands Sunday Cup finalists. They disbanded in 1987 and shortly afterwards the Saturday team of Norton United fame was formed which has now gone from strength to strength.

Thanks for that good bit of history. I would love to see them in the hat for the 2nd round. Financially it could keep them running for many years to come, but mainly from a football perspective.
