My all time favorite vale player on the wing or centre forward absolute gem i was at st andrews when vale played birmingham in the cup they had a welsh international full back who brum fans said he was quick but in the first five minutes rowland gave him 5 yards start and flew past him.He also had the hardest shot with both feet iv seen up the vale even harder than one of neil griffiths penalties.

Was there any truth in the rumour the ice cream man moved from the corner flag between paddock and Hamil to behind the goal because his fear of John's wayward shooting?

I remember being behind the goal at Bycars up at back one floodllit match when John cut in from just over the halfway line and the Paddock touchline about 5 yards and just hit it. The net moved before the keeper.

Never seen anything hit as hard as he could hit it.

Was he in a contest once to find the hardest shot in the country?

I seem to remember John breaking from the half way line on many occasions and running one on one with the opposing keeper but instead of rounding him he would lash the ball in from 30 yards, posters are not exaggerating with the power of his shot, when he hit them they stayed hit.

One of my favorite Vale players, he could strike a ball.

Does he remember his 30 yard shot that hit the back of the stantion and came out leaving the goal frame shaking, the fans going crazy but the ref gave no goal, it was at the Bycars end but I can't remember the opposition.

The best goal at Vale Park that was never given. I was in the Lorne Street paddock and the Vale were attacking the Bycars. John was about level with me when he hit the shot from his right wing position and I had the best of views and saw it hit the back of the goal and come out as fast as it went in. All the players stopped for a second until the opposition (I can't remember as well) realised that the ref hadn't blown and continued to play. The referee must have been in a position where he was right behind the line of the shot and assumed it had hit the woodwork - which you can understand because of the unbelievable speed it came back out. I don't think it made any difference to the result - Vale won - and because of this there was not much controversy afterwards.

John Rowland gives his first ever interview in VPB 93 out today. It's one of the best interviews we've ever printed where 'Cannonball' pulls no punches and tells it like it is - or was?

Also, Tony Gubba and Port Vale, Free 2015 Vale ParK Calendar, FIFA's 'The Name of the Game', The Ones That Slipped Thru' The Net, and loads more. Still a quid.

VPB- 'What did the players think about having the great Stanley Matthews as general manager?'

JR - 'He was useless! Useless!'

So says John Rowland in the second part of his interview featured in VPB 94 on sale tomorrow. It's a great no holds barred interview where John doesn't hold back, he says it exactly as he remembered it, and it might surprise a few people.

PLUS - Mascots Money & Me, The Good The Bad & The Ugly, Don't Mention The 'C' Word (not that one - Crewe), The Adventures of Murky Miller & Dopey Deakin, How we helped Houston Valiant to make contact with friends from 1973 when he first visited Vale Park, Readers Wives, A Guide To Vale's Automated Telephone System, plus loads more.

Still a quid.

Hi, we've got a couple of Vale fans in Australia who have every issue, so I know the postage is £2.20, cover price is £1, total = £3.20.

The easiest way of paying is via Paypal, if not cheque to Vale Park Beano, Box 485, Kidsgrove, ST7 3BX.

UpThe Vale !
