I remember recording the radio onto a cassette very well. Trying to stop and start just at the right time so you don't get the DJs voice on!

Also, I've got some VHS somewhere. Every Vale goal for a couple of seasons. (90 - 94 seasons I think). My old man used to wait for the midlands news after a game and press play at the right time to catch the goal. The effort and dedication that must have taken! You make one cockup and the tape is buggered!

Used to build my own compilations; when I had one of those handheld mono cassette players (before Walkmans) used to prop it up against the radio and then as you say have to time when to press record and play buttons at the same time

Tell the kids of today that and they won't believe you

Was at a quiz nite last nite and two of the team are in their late teens...and during course of the night both stated how they had never listened to an album all the way thru..they skip tracks, download tracks or just listen to the radio but never sit down to listen to an album all the way thru

One of the great delights of my teens was listening to great albums end to end..even if i did have to get up half way thru to turn the thing over

I used to put a microphone in front of a Decca Stereo Radiogram to tape Northern Soul records (played on the record deck) onto a Ferguson reel to reel tape recorder. The next jump in technology was the cassette tape recorder connected directly to a record player or tuner in a Hi-Fi system. I used to record Robbie Vincent's soul show on on Radio 1 on a Saturday night in the 80/90's and I'd play the cassettes in the car, some B****** nicked my car, I didn't want my car back but I was gutted by the loss of my cassettes.

It's incredible how many jobs have been created by the internet and the boost it's given to the global economy, it's enabled many things to be done which otherwise couldn't have.

I'm a teacher at a grammar school and can tell you that there's a significant proportion who haven't got the patience to sit through a whole song. It's frightening.
