A fresh start for the lad, berating him isn't going to do him, or anyone else's health any good. And hopefully a crucial signing in that he will be the catalyst of many other new signings in the next month.

 

Where have I berated him?

If Ryan McGivern does sign for us I can only assume (and have faith) that Mickey has properly assessed him and can see a decent player who he will get the best out of for us.

 

Admittedly there are quite a number of disparaging comments about him from Leicester and, mostly, Hibees fans but there are unlikely to be many enthusiastic Hibs fans considering the dire season they had and their subsequent relegation.

 

My guess is McGivern is probably unsettled at Hibs and is playing well below his best. He sounds like a party animal type and we know Mickey likes to think of himself as being able to control those types and get the best from them. Surely he must have some ability to have come all the way through Man City's ranks and then play in the Championship & Jock Prem.?

 

Anyway, we desperately need a centre half and if he can cover left back then great because Dicko's unlikely to go all season with no suspensions, never mind the risk of injury!

 

I just hope Mickey's right but that's what we pay him for. (Surely this guy can't be as bad as Craig James???:rolleyes:)

Well he sounds awful so anything he does from now on will be a pleasant surprise.

 

Players excel at certain clubs and I don't think we lost any quality with the exception of Loft (and maybe Knott) this summer so I don't think much we do will be too much of a backwards step.

I don't think it will be. I think the key word for most of our signings will be "versatility". We will go in with a smaller squad but of players who can play in several position, just like Ryan who can play CB/LB. Darcy Blake is also a good shout as he is versatile too..

Capped 19 times by his country, off the top of my head I can only think of Sammy Morgan as the only previous Vale player capped by NI and if Ryan McGivern is anywhere near as good as Morgan he will be a terrific player for Vale.

 

Somebody said that when he played against Portugal both Nani and Ronaldo never got a look in with him at left back but I guess its better for people to go on the negatives on a player who hasn't even put a Vale shirt on yet

I must miss something when I see Robertson as a few say how bad he is yet I don't think he is half as bad as some make out
