Aug. 9th Travel help

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'll be in Ireland for a family wedding in late July, so I'll be coming over with my lad for the Walsall game on Aug. 9th

I need some help with trains from Manchester Airport to SOT. London Midland doesn't look bad. Change at Piccadilly. We only have 13 mins. to catch the SOT train. Is this manageable?

Will arrive at 10:35 in T3 , so is the station far from there?

Sorry for all the questions, and any help is appreciated.

Sean

13 minutes is more than manageable at Manchester Piccadilly, providing the first train is on time.

Another option is Man Airport to Crewe and Crewe to Longport or Stoke.

The Virgin Train from Man Picc to Stoke takes about 35-40 mins and leaves at 15 and 35 past the hour.

Your 13 minutes could well be used up getting out of the airport.

Im not trying to put a downer on the trip but I have had problems getting through the airport quickly. I depends which gate you land at and how busy it is, having no baggage helps... The last time I flew in from Finland it took close on 40 minutes to clear the terminal with just hand luggage.... a plan B would help.

Unless something went disastrously wrong you'd easy make it for the game. If it's just you and your lad, and he's over 15 then actually the cost of the train is not (if at all) much less than a pre-booked taxi if you have to also pay to get from Stoke to the Vale. If there are more than two of you getting a pre-booked taxi is just cheaper even if you go via Crewe and walk from Longport.
