Foyle signed the wrong type of player by and large, mentally as well as ability-wise. Too many passengers that other clubs were willing to let go too easily. Not the type of player that keeps a manager in a job.

 

The season before we went down, we probably would have been in a relegation battle that year if it hadn't been for Constantine's goals and Sodje's presence up front. Once they left, we were a team who created little, had no goals in them but most of all had no bottle.

Foyle unfortunately spent a few years making us lose the will to live with his negative tactics, and little by little each year he replaced OK League One players with poor ones. He eventually built a squad of players that got him the sack.

 

Indeed. He did very well with the strikers (as you'd probably expect) but seemed to love a 'pedestrian' midfield and his teams became more and more dire to watch as the quality of player and style of play went downhill.

 

My original remark about him though was that he was the easy/lazy and (more to the point) cheaper option to aid that board in reducing the cost of the manager. (....are we about to experience deja-vu with Smurthwaite/Adams/Aspin?!)

Can we please forget ex players as our next manager. It never works. Am I right in thinking uwe seeler applied for the job and never got an interview.

 

I just wish we would sign Adams up on a long term contract for continuity. But if a change has to come then raise our sights and go shopping for a new manager abroad and bring a new vision to the club.

Uwe Rösler did in 2011. I don't think Uwe Seeler would consider dropping down to League One.

Not sure if its of interest but Aspins record at Halifax reads - played - 247,wins - 153,draws - 51,lost - 43. percentage 61.94%

Agreed I think,its happened with Foyle,Glover so I don't want Aspin to go the same way.

Ideally if Adams had to go I wouldn't want anyone with any previous affiliation with the club. I think it can cloud judgement at times. A cold, clinical view of the job in hand is better. Like Adams had when he first arrived.

Thanks Santa my mistake but the gist is the same ... there is absolutely no vision at Vale Park beyond Hamil Road, and never has been, when it comes to making senior appointments in management both on and off the field.

My point is that Vale have always been a club lacking in vision beyond Anglo Saxon Stoke on Trent.

 

I know it's generalisation of nationalities but if we could only look outside the envelope of comfort occasionally we might move our club forward. One of the reasons it would have been good to have Mo as owner was it would have broken the mould, Paladini would have brought Italian flair. The appointment of a German like Uwe Rosler would have got us away from this dam parochial thinking.

he is a small time manager doing well at a small time club that will always be small time.

 

To me Jean the last time anyone showed any vision of being anything different at Vale Park is when we built it.
