Stand up if you love the Vale....

Recommended Posts

Personally, I have no desire to stand ever again to watch the Vale, .

With all due respect, is that due to your age ? I feel I can post this as I would estimate I am close to the same age myself, and in any event would have to sit rather than stand due to mobility issues at the moment. But we should consider younger fans who want the excitement of jumping up and down, going a bit mad when Vale score / win.

It's all about choice - you and I and many others would still have the vast majority of the ground to choose a seat, but a standing area would be great for some who have never experienced the joy of standing to watch Vale (at home, anyway).

As it is now, there is no choice.

Valiants .What would be the view of converting the Bycars to all standing. We have been approached by FL for Clubs input SMURF

Personally, I'd be all for it. I used to love standing in The Bycars, back in the day.

I think standing at 20 quid wont bring in a large number of extra supporters, standing at 15 quid probably would but may not be enough to cover the drop in price. I think if all the people who say they prefer to stand used the bycars it would create a concentrated focal point but on present gates would make the rest of the ground seem empty. Facilities would have to be improved and safety measures taken [obviously] but I think if you are trying to recreate the atmosphere of bygone days its the only way to go... unless you have a team capable of beating ANY other team, then it doesnt matter if you sit or stand.

Unless someone else is paying for it or it brings in a few thousand extra bodies I dont think it has legs although in principal I think its a decent idea

I've got used to sitting now, and have no intention of standing anymore. Introducing a terrace in the Bycars would be a novelty at first, but after a few months the younger fans would want to move back closer to the away fans, leaving the Bycars as an empty terrace due to the regulars sitting elsewhere or even sitting at home!

I have great memories of standing in there against Tottenham, happy days.I think this would be a great idea(I would still use the paddock though),it could bring back the Bycars as the big home end.

The Lorne Street would just look wrong if half of it was standing and the other half seating.

Removing seating from the Bycars would be the best thing to do, but not as a priority unless it could be done relatively cheaply.

Would it also be possible to leave a few rows at the back for the people who want to sit? However they might not be able to see over the heads of the people stood up. This might require some extra work to change the rake of either the terracing or to raise the seated area.

Mellor - there is no reason why you cant sing anywhere - so there is no age limit.

The pricing as I understand it in some German grounds is that a standing area is reserved for young people at low prices - this encourages them to get a lifetime love of the club. once a certain age is reached they are expected to use another part of the ground at full price.

for instance the old family area at the Vale could have the seats taken out and used for that purpose.

One of the advantages of a standing family area is that young fidgety kids can stroll around making there own games up when bored during the match. as i am sure many of the older posters can remember doing at the vale when they were very young and went with their parent.

It will boil down to cost, taking seats out and installing barriers would be cheapest, but is it worth it? Whereas the .German style looks expensive. At my age I prefer/need to sit, but a trial at the Bycars cold be worth it, but as I said cost is a big factor in changing things. Do not suppose leaving seats and letting people stand would be legal?

Totally agree the police would never back it as folk are more prone to misbehaving when standing up.

Would love to stand on the railway again. It was the best atmosphere ever at vale the bycars has never generated much atmosphere standing or seated in my 40 years at vale.

1. I think the police would much prefer the more rowdy fans at the opposite end to the away fans. Especially at full time, not having them all spilling out onto Hamil road together.

2. Bycars never generated much atmosphere? Was that a serious comment? Bycars in the 90's was the best atmosphere ever created at Vale Park.

There is little price differential at the Vale now, the ends used to be cheaper, Paddocks about 50% more, and the Railway stand 100% more. Age groups did tend to follow certain areas.
